Cuaron's first true author film. Colorful Mexico, French New Wave-esque voiceovers and muting, wobbly hand-held shots are as restless as these joking young men, as ebullient as the land. A woman from Spain is actually a symbol of "mother". A woman subverts the two young people and "reshapes" them. Maybe this is Mexico's complicated feelings for Spain? The woman's death is a metaphor for the disappearance of Spanish colonial culture under various political movements. The last two young people actually have an indelible estrangement because of class differences. Everything on the journey is just a fuse. In the end, the two parted ways, which was really heavy and uncomfortable like being arched by a pig.
