Good and evil in this world

This is a very wonderful humanistic film, which explores human nature more deeply through film.

The two stories in the film are thought-provoking:

the first story.
Swedish doctor Anton faced the pain and death caused by armed violence every day in a refugee camp in Sudan, Africa. One day, he accepted a "big guy". This boss is the leader of an armed violence organization. His hobby is to autopsy pregnant women on the road, and he bet to guess whether the child in his belly is a boy or a girl. Because of this, he killed too many pregnant women. Those poor women were dying every time they arrived in front of Anton. He always tried his best to treat them, but he was often powerless.

The "big guy" suffered a foot injury. In this place where he is king by strength, he must heal the foot injury and stand up again. For this, he came to Anton for help. As a doctor, his sense of professionalism comes first, and he is willing to help the boss with treatment. The doctors and patients around were puzzled and unwilling to help the "big guy". After all, most of the relatives died more or less at the hands of the big guy. But Anton insisted on treatment, because he is a doctor, and there is no good or bad in life, and treatment is the doctor's responsibility.

Until one day, Anton treated a little girl, but died because of her serious condition. When Anton was in great pain and sadness, the "big guy" insulted the deceased little girl with extremely vicious language and even violated it. the intention of the corpse. Unable to bear it, Anton drove the "big guy" out of the refugee camp, and the big guy who had no "protection" was beaten to death by the haters.

In this story, Anton is good, and the "big guy" is evil. The professional ethics makes Anton choose to treat the "big guy", but because the "big guy" touches the deep string of Anton, he treats the "big guy" as a "big guy". Give up completely and throw it to everyone. Anton's kindness caused the "big guy" to die, and the "big guy"'s evil led to his final outcome. What about the crowd? Because of his anger, he concentrated all his anger on the boss, and he eventually got bad results.

Second story.
Anton's son Elias is an ordinary student who was bullied by his classmates because of his introverted personality and Swedish identity, but because of this, he met his good friend Christian. Christian is disturbed by the death of his mother, he begins to distance himself from his father, and hates the so-called "strong" bullying the "weak".

He stepped up to help Elias when he was being bullied, and led him down a terrible path. Once, Christian and Elias had a conflict with a strange child on the road. Anton ran to mediate, but was beaten up by the father of the strange child. Christian and Elias felt that Anton could not be bullied in vain, so they made a "bomb" by hand according to the production method on the Internet, and planned to put it under the bad guy's car to give him some color.

In the early morning, everything was quiet, and the two boys thought they were safe, waiting for the bomb to explode and then fleeing far away. But at this moment, a mother and daughter were exercising early in the morning and passed by. Elias rushed out in a hurry, shouting to let the mother and daughter disperse, but he was injured by the bomb and fell into a coma.

Christian was frightened. He thought it was foolproof. He thought that he could punish the bad guy, but instead caused his good friend to lie in the hospital and was in danger.

In this story, good and evil are blurred, and you can't even fully distinguish the existence of good and evil. Christian's approach is "evil"? But his starting point is "good", but everything is beyond his control and seems extreme. Bad guys who beat people are evil? A person who "speaks" with his fists must have an empty heart. He can't face people with a high attitude, and his own behavior is "low".

These two stories are really quite thought-provoking, especially in the excavation of human nature, what kind of existence is good and evil? It is impossible for us to solve problems across the board, but it is difficult to distinguish them clearly.

The cruel world is in Africa, and real life is just a reflection, shining everything on the two children like a prism. And the truly beautiful world is probably in the future, in a place that cannot be seen, where there is a better world.

All characters except christian's grandma are fully played, including two colleagues of the stupid car mechanic. Born into the WTO, as far as I have seen so far, it is rare that the internal conflict in the plot logic of Nordic movies is so strong, the sound and painting are clean and neat, and so are the small actors

In a Better World quotes

  • Christian: [after testing some explosives] Fuck! That was sick! Imagine if we use one of the big ones. His car will be blown to pieces.

    Elias: Whose car?

    Christian: That asshole, Lars.

Elias: You want to blow up his car?

    Christian: Sure.

Elias: Someone will find out. A car is really expensive.

Christian: Your dad will be pleased.

    Elias: I'm not so sure.

Christian: Doesn't matter. No one will find out. Are you in or out?

    Elias: I'm not sure...

Christian: If you're not in, I would like my knife back right now.
