The prototype of Chief Dave's survival is Douglas "Mike" Day - a member of the Navy's 2nd Special Operations Group, who was on a mission in Iraq in April 2007. When he entered the room, he was sprayed by several militants with AK47s, and he was shot 27 times. (The bulletproof vest blocked 11 shots.) After waking up from serious injuries, he used pistols to kill 4 militants while the militants were fighting with friendly forces outside the house. Miraculously survived emergency treatment. Afterwards he was awarded the Silver Star.
