Jimmy, an underappreciated writer, was arrogant and complacent, and bought a mansion for a huge sum before the book sold well. Now he can only write books for magazines for a living. Gretchen, the artist's manager, has an occasional date with a director who doesn't love her. The two met in the worst possible way, with Jimmy thrown out of the venue for insulting the bride's ex-girlfriend, and Gretchen stealing the wedding present. The two may have a flash of sparks, and the next is marathon sex. What should have been just a romantic one-night affair, but developed into a strange behavior of heart-to-heart, and the root of love has been planted at this time. Jimmy probably didn't know that he had fallen in love with her when he rubbed her feet and talked about his ex-girlfriend, when he couldn't help touching her face, when he left her for the night without driving her away. Gretchen may not know it, when she listens patiently to him, when she decides to stay the night, when she worries that he thinks it's not a one-night stand, she already has a place for him in her heart.
The biggest paradox of the show is how two terribly bad people can be loved and loved. But love is something without reason. Maybe two people meet in the ugliest way, see each other's shortcomings and want to continue together. This is true love.
