This is by no means Emily's Wuthering Heights

Of all the literary adaptations I've seen, this is the worst. none of them.

The structure and narrative of the original "Wuthering Heights" was a little jumpy and confusing, and it was a real challenge to visualize it. Smart adaptors will know how to choose and modify. But this 11-year British film is equivalent to a re-creation. In other words, the movie re-interprets a story with the help of the story structure and character relationships in the novel. Although the story looks identical on the outside, no one who has read the original will admit that this is Emily's "Wuthering Heights".

The stage for the activities of the characters in the original work is placed on Heathcliff's revenge today, and the focus of the performance is revenge. The film abandons the entire narrative method of the original book, and adopts a flat and straightforward approach to interpret the story directly according to the chronological order of events. Of course, I didn't expect the movie to be showing Heathcliff and Katherine's childhood for nearly an hour. In the next hour, Heathcliff came back, and in my opinion, he came back cowardly, the hatred in his heart did not show much, on the contrary, the love for Catherine was stronger. What is unacceptable is that when Heathcliff returns, Catherine rightly asks him why he left her. Do you still need to ask this question? As a betrayal party, Catherine, who is intertwined with self-blame, remorse and love, should not do this. After watching the whole movie, revenge is not the focus of the movie. Actually, I didn't find out what the movie was trying to represent as the original? Far-fetched words can be said to focus on the love tragedy of Heathcliff and Catherine.

What is very unsatisfactory is the thinness of the protagonist Heathcliff in the film. Although the camera has been on him, it is obvious that the aura of the two actors before and after cannot control the "Avengers". If the young actor's performance is not satisfactory, then the adult Heathcliff looks too god-like, and the real Heathcliff is a devil. He came back with hatred and he tried to destroy everything, including Catherine. The performance of the other actors was mediocre. The only thing that stood out was the girl who played little Catherine. She had the wildness of surviving in the wasteland, which made people know at a glance that she belonged to this place. The information revealed in the eyes is the coexistence of laziness and innocence. I'm also looking forward to what kind of transformation she will be playing as Catherine when she grows up, but it's a pity that the actor has changed. When she grows up, Catherine doesn't feel like a little girl who grew up playing in the wind and rain on Wuthering Heights and rolling in the mud. She is really a noble lady. That air of elegance did not belong to Catherine.

The film's abrupt end is also unexpected. With Katherine's death, it's just not acceptable for a few episodes to end after Wuthering Heights belongs to Heathcliff. From this point of view, the adaptation of the film successfully deleted the most essential parts of the original work, and completely eliminated the eerie and eerie atmosphere that the original work presented to people. If you love the original book, it is better not to touch this movie.

The best part of the film should be the view of the wasteland, but the cinematographer didn't show it at all. The picture of the hand-held camera kept shaking, and after watching it for two hours, there was a strong sense of motion sickness. The legendary Wuthering Heights is just a small house, like a peasant's earthen house, without the immediate sense of sight of a farmer's villa. Linton Manor is better, at least it presents a warmth that is completely different from the gloomy and cold atmosphere of Wuthering Heights. Also, the kissing scene in the movie is the most disgusting and dispassionate I've ever seen.
