Too many celebrate success, but few are willing to record failure. A superficial belief that success is achieved overnight, a gift from God to genius.

Before you succeed, not many people can appreciate and affirm you. And when you're successful, flowers and applause are just icing on the cake, and they don't really mean much.

When someone asks Arau, are you still a person? He said, I am a reporter. When people gather for profit, they must disperse for profit.

Tony cried out to the rescuers in desperation, but he couldn't stop them from deserting him under the blizzard. Cowardice and selfishness in the world are a pronoun called reality. People who succumb to reality don't actually blame them, they also have their own wives and children.

Tony said he didn't climb mountains just for himself. more concerned about their own people. Go up the mountain for your friends, go down for your conscience. When Andy was dead, when he was surviving a blizzard on the mountain, he never got to safety. As he said, I'm so cold.

Maybe Andy is more dashing. Climb for the dream, give up for the friend. Z-climbing, he also left a successful experience in the history of this failure.

The film itself is not too fascinated and profound for me. Seeing the ending, I can't find the meaning of the director.

What is the significance of recreating such a tragic piece of history? Is it just to honor the pioneers?

North Face quotes

  • [first lines]

    [in German, quoting English subtitles]

Luise Fellner: [voiceover] When you're at the bottom - Toni once told me - at the foot of the wall, and you look up, you ask yourself: How can anyone climb that? Why would anyone even want to? But hours later when you're at the top looking down, you've forgotten everything. Except the one person you promised you would come back to.

  • [last lines]

    [in German, quoting English subtitles]

Luise Fellner: [voiceover] All I know is that death spared me, and that Toni went away forever that day. One has lived if one has loved. There are times when I find this infinitely hard to believe. Most days I feel that I am alive. And that love is the reason for that.
