Judge: Nelson Mandela, do you plead guilty?
Nelson Mandela: My lord, it should not be me in the dock, it should be the government, I am innocent. I don't deny that I planned sabotage. But I didn't plan it out of recklessness, or because I love violence. The hard truth is that 50 years of non-violence have brought only more and more repressive laws and less and less rights to Africans who want a fair share of the whole of South Africa. We want equal political rights: one person, one vote, and I have always devoted myself to this struggle for Africans. I am against white hegemony, I am against black hegemony, I have always held the ideal of a free and democratic society (the South African dream), in which all races live in harmony and have equal opportunities, and this is what I hope to live for and live for. An ideal to achieve, but an ideal to which I am ready to devote my life if need be.

Nelson Mandela's Monologue: I've come a long way to get freedom, it's been a long road, but it's not over. I know my country has not been created to become a land of hate. No one is born to hate others, just because of the color of his skin, people learn to hate, and people can learn to love, because love happens in nature, and love comes from the heart.
