The unprecedented success of Life and Death Spy in 1999 has enabled a large number of Korean directors to see the huge market for such films in South Korea, but the uniqueness of JSA is that it blurs right and wrong and right and wrong. It's not like life and death espionage also adds Choi Min-sik, an extremely fanatical and evil extremist.
JSA is by no means a typical Park Chan-wook movie, but more like a compromise between Park Chan-wook and a commercial film company, but as an excellent director, Park Chan-wook still found the most appropriate balance between commercial and personal style in the film. There are
many long shots. Using, the big-faced Song spit out the chocolate cake, and the almost incomplete shootout in the final truth revealing stage, the close-up of the blood and the muzzle of the gun undoubtedly revealed a strong style of Park Chan-wook. The prominence of these details did not make the film a four dissimilarities, but made the tragedy of the film more intense.
At the same time, Park Chan-wook did not give up his love of flashbacks and storytelling techniques. The audience already knew the ending, but they had to watch the growing friendship on both sides of a dividing line. This makes the sense of tragedy of fate more and more intense.
JSA has made Park Chan-wook more recognized, and has given him great freedom and privilege to roam independent films and commercial films with a strong personal style.
At the same time, it is undoubtedly a warning to the Chinese film industry. Film protectionism is not conducive to the development of films, and the grading system is the final way out. To give filmmakers more space and freedom, China has no shortage of excellent filmmakers, and there is no shortage of excellent film themes, but we have no space and freedom, and our filmmakers can only be mediocre.
JSA is undoubtedly so cruel that I can't bear to watch it anymore. Even if I take out the disc and turn off the computer, the sense of tragedy of fate in the movie still lingers; at the same time, it is an excellent Korean movie that must be watched, especially with its unique Korean style. One of the must-see Korean movies.
If you have to give me a reason not to applaud, maybe the rest is that this is a Korean movie rather than a Chinese movie.
