The director's casting is very sophisticated. Jessica Biel is a true American, she has a good grasp of the heroine's amorous feelings and demeanor, and it is perfect for her to play the role of Lalida, who seems to be wild and infatuated. The addition of two veteran movie stars, British gentleman Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas, adds more British flavor to the background of the story and is more loyal to the original, making this slightly bland story a lot more polished. The main line of contradiction in the film is divided into 3 points: 1. The love gap between race car driver Larida and her husband John Whitaker gradually revealed. 2. The mother-in-law conflict between Larida and Mrs. Whitaker. 3. The collision of traditional dogma and modern ideas. The substitutes for the three contradictions are all Larida, and it is doomed to be out of place for such a woman with an extraordinary past to break into the old-fashioned British countryside. While the world (mostly women) belittles and abuses Larida's "moral behavior", it is also mixed with jealousy and admiration. This is a kind of contradictory emotion. Women hate her "evil behavior" towards her ex-husband. They subconsciously think that she is naturally feisty, but they envy and envy her beauty, good temperament and very different thinking and acting style. Most people scoffed at showing their resistance to aliens or even out of reach. There is a similar plot in the movie "The Beautiful Legend of Sicily". There are many such people in the real society, who are afraid of changing or even contradicting people and things that are contrary to themselves with unchanging concepts; or they are curious and want to try but are afraid of the eyes around them. In the film, the epitome of the former is Mrs. Whitaker, the head of the aristocratic family, while the representative of the latter is Mrs. Whitaker's daughter. After all, human beings are social animals after all, and it is said that a fearful person can kill an elephant. (There is a great interpretation in the movie "Hunting") In the end, the movie tells the audience that the price of freedom is higher when you are faithful to your heart.
The most brilliant scene in the movie is the tango at the end. Jessica Biel and Colin Firth's wonderful backing dance is played repeatedly. The performance of Jessica's every look and eye can be said to be quite skillful. After the film was released that year, various external media tended to criticize the film, but the superb performances of the actors, the compact and unnecessary editing, and the humorous soundtrack made the film have a lot of aftertastes.
