The heroine Joe in the film is a very special existence. The desire to awaken from a young age makes her desire and understand sex deeper than others. What is sex? It is not to fill up sensitive parts, nor to make up for the lack of spirit, nor to prove the existence of self. In Joe's view, sex is life, the innate ability and primitive needs of human beings, so she loves her lower body, her lust, and her lascivious behavior.
This film is different from the attitude of "Sex Addiction Diary" in interpreting desire and craving, it is more like a gender speculation on sex. Such as maintenance issues, sexuality issues, loyalty issues, the views and attitudes of men and women will never be in harmony. According to Freud's theory, the "original state" of sex is different, and the needs and behaviors of sex are naturally very different. If you look at the sexual behavior of men and women with a balanced attitude, it is a misjudgment of sex in itself.
This is a topic that is speculated in psychology and sexuality theory, but not necessarily applicable to real life. This is also the crux of the repeated conflicts between asexuals and sex addicts, so it is reasonable for asexual strong people to be murdered by sex addicts.
"The Antichrist" and "Melancholia" before "The Female Addict" both vented the director's dissatisfaction with this society with frantic and distorted expressions, and also raised sharp questions. But in a way, The Female Addict is more complete and clearer. No matter how crazy and incomprehensible Joe's behavior is, Seligman can maintain an objective and calm attitude to examine and judge the problem. This has also become the basis for the establishment of the work and the clear standpoint of the two characters.
For Westerners, the topic of sex is far more open than in the East. Following a natural attitude allows Westerners to face the topic in a relatively candid way, while Easterners are far more shy. However, after sexual loyalty is put on the shackles of morality, it seems that there is an intercommunication medium, so that sexual behavior that is not premised on love and morality becomes a coquettish cancer that corrodes society.
When Director Thiel proposed this point of view, he also sneered at it. For him, the Joe who sees sex purely enough is the person to be respected, especially women. In terms of gender, this work also expresses the director's love for the flood of women.
The first half of "Woman Addict" is more like a biography, combing Joe's sexual addiction process in detail, and those trivial and exciting clips shape the heroine into a stubborn and crazy sex addict. No principles, no ideals, only to live to satisfy desires. The second half has changed a lot. Although the topic remains on Joe's life, through deeper reflection, the constantly seeking heroine is shaped into a fighter who insists on himself.
The director ingeniously designed clear layers of upper and lower parts and two extreme characters, controversial issues, and injected religion, politics, art, music... many issues in different fields to confirm his point of view, and use the novel to prove his point. The chapters of the book will explain and prove it, and put the entanglement of sex and love into a philosophical observation. This is the most realistic and exciting part of the film.
