Akira and the spelling bee

In a fierce competition, who doesn't want to take the first place? Just the two of them, Akira and a handsome Chinese guy.
The spelling bee began, and the Chinese boy's father taught him spelling very strictly. Because this is his last chance! He has to win! This scene happened to be witnessed by Akira.
When he came to power, Akira deliberately spelled the beginning of "yellow disease" as "X" in order to make the Chinese boy live up to his father's expectations. Her every move made others stunned. She could have won with her strength, but she let the opportunity go.
I thought the boy would gloat over Akira's misspelling, how do I know that the boy also misspelled the word on purpose! I put thousands of question marks in my heart, why does he want to win, but let go of the opportunity? I watched slowly and thought quietly. It was only in the end that they realized that they were giving in to each other. Why is Akira so kind? Knowing that her mother and the doctor expected her to win so much, she actually misspelled words regardless; and why did the Chinese boy hurt his father so much?
Here, although it is a stage for two people to fight, but in the eyes of the two, this is no longer a stage for battle, but a platform for communication...

Akeelah and the Bee quotes

  • Akeelah: Okay. But when I'm at the bee, and they tell me to spell some little fish from Australia or some weird bacteria on the Moon, we're going to wish we'd done a little bit more "rote-morizing" and not so much essay reading. If you don't mind me saying.

Dr. Larabee: Bacteria don't exist on the Moon.

  • Dr. Larabee: Where do you think big words come from?

    Akeelah: People with big brains?
