Watching this film is entirely because of Christian Bale. The film maintains an unhurried narrative rhythm from the beginning to the end, but in this film, the rhythm is reasonable and sufficient to express the deep meaning of the story, so that the story is in every moment. After a climax occurs, it can leave the viewer time to stop and think about it. Especially the two brothers, one went hunting with his uncle, and the other participated in boxing gambling in order to pay back the money. The camera has been switching back and forth between the hunting scene and the venue where the younger brother is punching. At the climax of the story, Roselle looks back at the deer he was targeting while hunting, Roselle withdraws the gun, but Roselle's uncle captures a deer anyway, close-up of the deer's head in the back of the car The shot, as well as that of Roselle and his uncle skinning a deer, foreshadows what happens next to Rodney, and the color and narrative of the entire film make it dark and depressing, but the end of the film doesn't seem to be complete. As expected, the ending is simple and hastily. When Roselle learned of Rodney's death, the subsequent revenge should be surging, not abruptly ended (not only Roselle avenged Rodney's hatred, but the film is not enough emotionally tainted), The director did not continue to explore the deep meaning behind the film, just like the title of the film "Escape the Furnace", and did not give the audience an explanation until the end of the film.

The degree of completion is top-notch, but there is a slight problem with the editing, and the plot is too bland, and the characters don't look good, and they are suppressed to the end as if there is nothing...

To escape, forced into the furnace. This is a very good criminal psychology work, but it has been played into a revenge journal. If it weren't for a few good actors, I'm afraid no company would pay for this script.

Out of the Furnace quotes

  • Rodney Baze Jr.: [voice-over] Russ, I'm sorry about the other day. I know you're looking out for me. But you gotta understand that I'm different than I was before I left. And I think that I always will be. I can't explain how exactly. My head is just full of stuff and I can't get it out. But I'm gonna turn things around. I'm gonna do this one last fight and then I'll be done. Then I'm gonna shovel asphalt or dig for coal or I'll work with you and Roach at the mill. I'll do anything. I'm gonna get things back on track. I promise. I love you, man. I'll see you tomorrow when I get back.

  • Russell Baze: [about jail] Could be worse.

Rodney Baze Jr.: How could it be worse?

Russell Baze: Well. I could've gone to Iraq with you.

    Rodney Baze Jr.: No shit.

    Russell Baze: No shit.

Rodney Baze Jr.: I asked Lena to come down here, she said some bullshit about not wanting to see you like this.

Russell Baze: She would. She doesn't like this place very good...

Rodney Baze Jr.: She doesn't like this place? What, is there someone that likes this place?

Russell Baze: Just give her a break. What about you, you still seeing the... the... "woof-woof...? Woof-woof! Down!"

[he makes more dog sounds, and they both laugh]

Rodney Baze Jr.: Oh man... I almost forgot about her. Thanks a lot.
