"Good Night and Good Luck": For Forgotten Memories

I always thought that George Clooney, like Sean Penn, was a very thoughtful person. Most of the works he directs reject kitsch and express what he wants to express. This film is his representative work as a director.

Had it not been for George Clooney's insistence on making the film, we might have forgotten about Edward F. Morrow, the influential and historical figure of the pioneer of television journalism in the 1950s.

The relationship between politics and the news media has always been an intriguing and sensitive topic. The ideal state is for the news media to have a completely neutral voice. But over the years, the news media has mostly been reduced to a tool for political propaganda. It is precisely because of this that Morrow, who fought and fought against the infamous Senator Joseph McCarthy, is so well known.

This film about history and politics is not boring, but quite fascinating. This is due to the portrayal of the characters and the era in a good script. It is worth mentioning that George Clooney is also one of the screenwriters.

The actor David Strathairn, who plays Morrow, is unknown, with a full-bodied character and a performance full of tension. The other main cast members are also strong actors such as Robert Downey Jr, Patricia Clarkson, Jeff Daniels, Frank Langella and Clooney himself.

The black and white format of the film is also very impressive.

The film won the 2005 Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director (Clooney), Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Editing, Best Cinematography 6 major nominations.

It always felt a little wrong, a little too shabby, more like a well-made episode

It's way better than The Newsroom.

Good Night, and Good Luck. quotes

  • Edward R. Murrow: We will not walk in fear, one of another.

  • Edward R. Murrow: No one familiar with the history of this country, can deny that congressional committees are useful. It is necessary to investigate before legislating. But the line between investigating and persecuting is a very fine one, and the Junior Senator from Wisconsin has stepped over it repeatedly. We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always, that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason if we dig deep into our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men. Not from men who feared to write, to associate, to speak, and to defend the causes that were for the moment unpopular. This is no time for men who oppose Sen. McCarthy's methods to keep silent or for those who approve. We can deny our heritage and our history but we cannot escape responsibility for the result. We proclaim ourselves as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom wherever it continues to exist in the world. But we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home. The actions of the Junior Senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies abroad and given considerable comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his, he didn't create this situation of fear, he merely exploited it, and rather successfully. Cassius was right, the fault dear Brutus is not in our stars, but in ourselves. Good night, and good luck.
