March 23 is the premiere day of "Let's Play" in Hong Kong. Half an hour before the opening of the film, the audience waiting for admission at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center has already been discharged. long queue. This is not an authentic cinema. In fact, it was originally just a lecture hall, so this hall is very strange, it looks narrow and long, and the screen is not big, which makes people feel disappointed at first.
To my surprise, the director Jean-Pierre Genet actually brought the heroine to the scene. After watching Genet's films for so many years, this was the first time I saw Genet himself. He himself only said a few simple words, but the heroine was learning Cantonese playfully and mobilized the atmosphere very well.
But what makes me most happy is that the audience in this movie is very good. It can be seen that most of them have some understanding of Genet, and they control the applause of the artist in a relaxed manner. There was no routine applause of "can't stop", and there was no cry like Brother Chun came to the stage.
The 100-minute movie passed quickly in a very relaxed atmosphere. After the subtitles were released, there was a long and warm applause from the screen. Although some audience members chose to leave the stage after applauding, there were still a large number of audience members who sat until the end of the subtitle screening. Anyway, the whole viewing process is to give people a very professional and very comfortable feeling. I think that's what this movie feels like - professional and comfortable.
With his unique aesthetic concept, Jean-Pierre Genet has created a movie with a very personal style for the audience. The details of the film captured me deeply from the moment my mother received a bad news call and made an expression of forcibly holding back her exclamation. After that, whether it was that weird scrap iron yard or those ingenious gadgets, they were full of strong inner temperament.
The story fits so well with Genet that I can't think of anyone better suited to make a movie like this. A person with bullets in his head, combined with a group of weirdos, including a cartilaginous girl, a blasting expert, a genius calculation girl, an extremely thin and extremely powerful artist... In the end, two arms dealers were completely destroyed. The whole movie is like a big prank, making the audience happy to see how the two big bosses are flushed.
Genet's taste for humor has remained at a high level, including the surgeon's philosophical dialogue on how to deal with bullets and gambling-style medical consultations, including the hero's Chinese-style double-reeds begging for food, including a big boss. Guy likes the special hobby of collecting celebrities' organs... There are also many bridges that keep pace with the times, such as the youtobe video sharing at the end, which makes every audience laugh.
But after laughing, the question arises, what does this movie leave in your heart? During the entire viewing process, in retrospect, I was not touched even once. This is unimaginable. In Genet's previous films: the love in "Black Shop" is touching, and the recollection of a person's memory in "Emily" was originally a very crying point. Breakthrough, although "The Long Engagement" is big and inappropriate, the love of amnesia can still make people feel heartbroken. When it comes to "Enjoy the Game", it is really the same as the title, only the game is left, and even the love between the hero and heroine is handled like a fairy tale speed-dating, and there is no aesthetic feeling worth aftertaste.
Another characteristic of Genet is that he is very good at digging out small plots in the movie and playing some innocuous crossings appropriately. This time, in "Enjoy the Game", Rene's crossing times increased significantly. Because the male protagonist is a person who has bullets in his head and will lose control of his brain when he is nervous. Therefore, Renei used a lot of opportunities when the male protagonist's brain got out of control. All these efforts have greatly increased the rhythm of the film and created laughs; of course, on the other hand, it has also weakened the plot and appeal of the film.
Then again, maybe this time Genet just wanted to play to his heart's content and make everyone laugh hard, maybe he didn't even think about making a more self-transcendence movie. Many people should think this way and view this movie in this way, so I think the entertainment of "Let's Play" is still very strong, and it can be guaranteed that you will open your mouth and laugh at least once every two minutes on average.
But after watching it, I am still a little disappointed. This is a Jean-Pierre Genet movie. I hope to see an interesting movie as perfect as "Emily" again. If a director is not based on If you go beyond yourself, then making a movie doesn't mean that much to itself.
In addition, attentive audiences may have noticed that in "Enjoy the Game", there are many scenes of Genet's "tribute" to his previous work. Including a family sitting and playing music like the hero and heroine in "Black Shop", including a fish tank that performs pornographic performances like "Emily"... Hope this is just a narcissistic joke, because a director has Recalling one's own glory early is a sign of withering.
If you have time, I still recommend everyone to watch this movie. If there is no "Emily", I would have fallen for Genet.
