On an ordinary day, a young boy named Zachary and Ethan had an argument in a park, the former broke the latter's mouth with a stick. This minor dispute over children brought together two couples who had no relationship at all. Mike Longstreet (John C Reilly), who runs a haberdashery, and Penelope (Jodie Foster), a writer, are Ethan's parents. They welcome Zachley's parents, lawyer Alan Cowin (Christoph Waltz) and investment broker Nancy (Kate Winslet), to their home. They negotiated, discussed, argued, sneered, and criticized their children's injuries. Sometimes they forced their faces to be happy, sometimes they were unhappy, but they had to face to face this difficult and painful day... This
film won the 2011 Boston Film Critics Award Best Ensemble Award, 2011 Venice Film Festival Little Golden Lion Award.

Carnage quotes

  • Alan Cowan: Penelope, I believe in the god of carnage. The god whose rule's been unchallenged since time immemorial.

  • Nancy Cowan: I've got a John Wayne idea of manhood, too. What is it he had? A Colt .45. Something that empties a room. Any man that doesn't have those loner vibes just doesn't come off as having any substance.
