On an ordinary day, a young boy named Zachary and Ethan had an argument in a park, the former broke the latter's mouth with a stick. This minor dispute over children brought together two couples who had no relationship at all. Mike Longstreet (John C Reilly), who runs a haberdashery, and Penelope (Jodie Foster), a writer, are Ethan's parents.
