After director Alexander Payne continued "Descendants", this time he continued to explore deeper truths in the name of family care in his hometown. Although this film does not have the grand island power struggle like "Descendants", it has only won 26 awards so far, just over half of "Descendants"'s 51 awards. But no matter how you look at it, this film is better than "Descendants" in terms of family affection. Even if George Clooney has the charisma of one to ten, it can't match the moment when 84-year-old mother June Squibb's skirt is facing the tombstone. On the way, the father and son exchanged cups with a little more of the mood of "Life with a Cup of Wine". The two-hour black-and-white film seems to bring the audience back to that era. This allows the director and local audiences to see, perhaps there will be greater feelings and emotions, and it can be regarded as a review and commemoration of director Payne's hometown scenery and humanities!
As for the old father in the film, who is also a veteran of the Vietnam War, he finally accepted the cruel reality with the psychology of failure and frustration. All the praises and dreams, and the poignant and beautiful vision disappeared in an instant, just like from the battlefield back then. Return from defeat. Nothing has been achieved, and nothing has been achieved. After chasing a big circle, I only get a hat of failure to prove the helplessness and bitterness of life. In the end, only with the care of my family can I get unsatisfactory comfort. Fortunately, we still have family members. Although they are not perfect, and even forced to live together, they still have a warm heart. The film does not have the inspiration and warmth of "Descendants", nor the wine ridicule of "Life with a Cup of Wine". It is just a group of veterans who interpret the bankruptcy of an ordinary car dream, which is enough to be thought-provoking and savor the misery of the world!
