The film is a pseudo-documentary created by three film school students in Belgium. I've been watching it recently with high expectations because of the film's reputation as a noir cult. But after watching the film, I didn't feel that the film had a shocking or blockbuster sense of subversion, but felt dull and boring during the 95-minute viewing process. I have always watched the camera crew in the film calmly from the perspective of a bystander, from being a mere recorder at the beginning to gradually agreeing with the worldview values of robbery and murderers, to being completely brought into the world of murderers and even easily participating in robbery and murder. The director of the film, Remy, wanted to emphasize the charm of the pseudo-documentary, and even the violence itself was not the focus of the director's attention at the beginning. But it may be due to the reasons of the times. The form of pseudo-documentary has long been commonplace nowadays, and it is not an amazing gimmick. In the film, the subconscious transformation of the identity of the recorder and the out-of-control development of the situation never caused any ripples in my heart. It seems that I had already subconsciously made a pre-judgment at the beginning of the film. The whole incident seems to me mostly fateful. of sadness. But the robber-murderer's strong interest in music, art and religious philosophy and his strong racial chauvinist tendencies are interesting, and I can't help but think of Jigsaw, the old man in the Chainsaw series - the same erudite and versatile, the same cynicism And flirting with the world, but this murderer is less arrogant, after all, he still needs to bow down for five buckets of rice. At first, I was puzzled for a long time as to why this film had such a high rating, but after thinking about it, I was extremely terrified—it turned out that after being baptized again and again by many cult films, I actually experienced the experience of the film crew over and over again: from bystander to approver To the participants - subconsciously design the plot direction in the mind, and silently become a co-conspirator of a conscious world. Therefore, I don't think "Man Bites Dog" should be regarded as a film whose form is greater than its content. Sometimes the true meaning of the film often exceeds the director's expectations. In my opinion, the significance of "Man Biting Dog" is to reveal such a subtle influence on the level of consciousness. People's position and consciousness are usually not as indestructible as they think.
