The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Seven elderly British men in their twilight years travelled to Jaipur, India for a holiday. Among the seven, the empathetic Evelyn (Judi Dench) tries to live independently after losing her husband; Justice Graham (Tom Wilkinson), who suffers from heart disease, is carrying The unspoken secret; Douglas (Bill Nighy) and Joan hope to improve the rigid relationship between husband and wife; old urchin Norman and old Maggie are always looking forward to having an affair; as for Muriel (Maggie Maggie Smith (played by Maggie Smith), she always looks a little cold and mean while waiting for surgery.
The seven people with their own concerns were attracted by the exotic advertisements and stayed at the Marigold Hotel by coincidence. But the real hotel is not as comfortable as advertised, and this trip to India's soul is not as good as expected. In an unfamiliar country, everyone started new thinking about the rest of their lives, and they didn't want to regret lifelong hard work toward a happy ending.
The film is based on the novel These Foolish Things by British author Deborah Moggach.

The actors are very fond of them, but I feel a little disappointed after the filming. Maybe my expectations are too high, but it's still pretty good.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel quotes

  • Jean: The whole thing is actually tremendously exciting. Not just getting on the plane, but getting on the plane and turning left.

    Norman Cousins: Turning left?

Jean: First class. And home in time for our fortieth wedding anniversary. We haven't quite decided how to mark the occasion.

Madge Hardcastle: Perhaps a minute's silence.

  • Evelyn: You're still here.

Douglas Ainslie: I... I missed the plane.

    Evelyn: What about Jean?

Douglas Ainslie: She didn't. I had... I had quite an interesting night actually. I... I met the same... um... taxi driver, but this time I let him take me to his brother's hotel, which turned out to be less of a hotel and more of a... more of a brothel really. And... and they gave... they gave me this pipe, said it was apple tobacco but that's not what they called it when I was a student, so... so I made my excuses and left. I needed time to think. This city at night is extraordinary. I think the apple tobacco helped... probably.
