First of all I want to talk about the translation of the title of this film. First of all, keeping mum, there is a pun (pun) here, mum is not only the mother's spoken language, but also the meaning of silence. Again, the film as a whole is still unfolding in a comedy tone. So the title of the film and keeping silent does not reflect any of the above. On the contrary, the word silence makes me feel that this film is serious and serious, and it is a failure. Then there will definitely be people who say, you should pick a name and take a look. In order to block Yoyo's audience, I also took some time to think about it. I personally think that the above artistic conception expresses at least one of them, so it would be better to be similar to "Mom is a Little Sick" (it is easy to see that it is a comedy, and the core of the film, the mother with mental illness, is shown).
The film caught people's attention at the beginning, with the pregnant rosy (maggie) being sent to a mental hospital after being found in a suitcase on the train after killing the body of her cheating husband and his lover. .
N years later, she turned into a housekeeper Grace and came to the pastor's house in a small town. Before she came, there were many problems at home, the husband was dull and bored, the wife had an affair, the daughter had sex frantically, the son was bullied at school, and the family was still plagued by the barking of the neighbor's dog and the trivialities of an old woman in the town day and night. Rosy solved all the problems one by one, of course, the way she used to do it was to kill.
A live TV show made the wife and daughter find out that Rosy was a murderer, but it also led to the fact that she was the wife's mother (although there were a few hints buried, I found it very good).
After solving the problem, rosy left. Later, the plumber said that the grass in his pond was the source of a series of problems with the town's water supply, and that it would take to drain it to solve the problem. And the dogs and people killed by Rosy are at the bottom of the pool.
At the end of the film, the camera moves to a few corpses at the bottom of the pool, and finally to the latest addition, the plumber. This is a highlight. So I found out that the wife, whether it is genetic or affected, has the mother's unique solution to the problem - killing.
In the film, Maggie's performance did not disappoint. One of her expressions and one look can convey a lot of information. What I saw was a lovely mentally troubled mother.
This film should be treated as a comedy. Don't deeply analyze the way rosy kills to solve the problem, and definitely don't raise it to the perspective of ethics and human nature, otherwise you will annoy yourself. I don't think this is the director's original intention. The cheerful and witty background music he uses is a good proof. Just British black humor.
