The movie "Black Book" tells a story set in World War II. After her house was bombed, Rachel, a Jewish girl from the Netherlands, took the road to escape from the Nazis. However, when she met her parents and just felt the short-lived happiness of family reunion, she was brutally calculated by the Jews. The whole family was killed, and she was the only one lucky survived. This will surely lead her to embark on a path of struggling for survival in the cracks of society, revenge for her family and struggle for the nation. After that, Rachel changed her name to Alice in order to hide her identity, and dyed her hair yellow at the same time. She lived with her guerrilla comrades, and by chance she met German captain Menz, so the guerrilla captain let Rachel infiltrate the German camp to act as a spy, and the story of spies and counter-espions followed As Alice and Menz's love unfolds. The film has twists and turns, and it has been turned over several times, making it impossible to estimate the development of the plot. The succession of accidents makes people unable to distinguish between good and evil. There is hope in desperation, but in hope, there seems to be no way out. Therefore, when I watched this movie, I always waited with nervousness and anxiety, waiting for the next scene given by the director. In these twists and turns, I felt the horror of war, as well as the beauty, ugliness, good and evil of people in the context of war.
This is not a black-and-white movie. Like the usual war movies, the two sides of justice and evil are clearly divided. For example, the movies during World War II always tried their best to depict the brutal killing and ruthless cold blood of fascists against Jews. The film angle of this "Black Book" is more macro, the film focuses on depicting a person from details and trivial matters, to describe the character image and storyline. This is especially evident in the second half of the film. The theme of war is still people. War is started by people, started by people, and completed by people. Then in the context of war, specific people are very important. They are small forces and play a role in war. Either aggravating or hindering. The film focuses on portraying Rachel as a woman.
Rachel, the woman no doubt suffers from the beginning of the film. Her little house was blown up, her family was killed, and the hand of war reached her so that she could no longer escape. However, she felt the pain but did not fall down. She is a positive girl with positive energy in her heart, so she dares to fight and fight for it. She was young and beautiful, and with her beauty, she entered the military camp and fell in love with Captain Menz. She originally just wanted to use him, but she didn't expect to really fall in love with him. When the director portrayed Rachel, she showed the optimism and strength of this little person. She was still alive and healthy under the war, her emotions, her grief and melancholy, and her pain and struggle. She is a natural person, a complete person, she can still distinguish justice, and she does not betray anyone for her own life. She has always been a lively, casual and correct girl. The director portrayed her love and hatred, her bravery, her joy in hiding with Menz, and she said she wanted to have a peaceful life. When the war ended, before she could be happy, she was arrested, she was dung, her "human" rights were not guaranteed by the end of the war, and some people were still punishing and exploiting others. . What is the difference between this and war, the prostitutes were cut into yin and yang heads, the so-called traitors were whipped and asked to strip, and the end of the war did not bring light to everyone. This is where the theme of the film deepens. When Alice learned of the news of Menz's murder, she couldn't help showing a look of extreme pain on her face. She said with a trembling voice, "When will you be a leader?" The fighting and torture between people undoubtedly created chasms in this woman's heart. The war destroyed her home, her friends, and finally her lover. But everyone in this world, regardless of race and gender, is obviously an equal life, but some people think highly of themselves and try to take away the dignity and life of others. In the post-war excrement scene, we can see that when a man tramples on the dignity of others to gain inner pleasure, the ugliness and evil in his heart have made him a "Nazi". Human beings are human, and race and other names are but a coat on them. Rachel was lucky to survive so many disasters in the war. Fortunately, the war did not destroy such a smart woman. Rachel has always used her small life, a small individual to resist the big world, she has her own way. Whether she was a spy or later explained the truth to her comrades, she tried to stop the inhumane killings in this world and tried her best to get close to the core of the truth. Such a woman with a bright and charming personality is undoubtedly fascinating.
The movie "Black Book" has all the points of war movies, Nazis, massacres, conspiracy and rebellion. There are a lot of good things about this movie, but I think one of the highlights is the character Rachel is portrayed. From the life journey of the little people, we can always see the personality of "people", the pursuit of beauty, love and light, and the escape from ugliness, evil and darkness. Rachel is like a little sun shining in a cloudy and gloomy place, struggling to maintain her own light. This world is not too unlovable. Rachel survived and became a teacher in the end. At the end of the movie, she looked at the lake peacefully and recalled the past. Under the peaceful demeanor, she must be in a turbulent state of mind.
However, not far away the war started again.
