always you

This movie reminds me of a science fiction novel I read as a child. It was probably published in the science fiction world of junior high school or elementary school.

In the very distant future, people each have a single soulmate, but people have no reproductive function. A specific institution clones your other half after he/she dies, and you bring him/her up by yourself. After you die, you will be handed over to him/her to raise you for life after the clone. . .
People can experience their loved ones from the first time they open their eyes, the first time they talk, the first time they walk and run, the first time. . . In short, you will not regret missing any of his/her first time. From infancy to adulthood to old age, you will be with you forever. There will always be only each other in your world.
At that time, I was still young, and I didn't know what genes to clone. I just thought this story was really romantic to death. Feeling sad now because it's not really human, it's just an extreme.

Womb quotes

  • [first lines]

Rebecca: It's over. I will always speak to you. And I don't mind if you don't say anything. Just because you went away, it doesn't mean you're not here anymore. Perhaps all I ever needed was this gift.

    [rubbing her belly]

Rebecca: The one you gave to me at the end

  • Thomas - 10 years: I keep dying!

    Rebecca: Try again.
