Sometimes you fly to the top, only to find that it might be better to fall in the middle.

The film is adapted from real historical events

. The prototype of the story of "North Wall" is the most famous tragedy in the history of Alpine mountaineering. The incident happened on the eve of the 1936 German Olympics. In order to show the world the excellence of the Germanic nation, the Nazi government launched a A rock-climbing challenge, climbing from the north face of the Alps to the top, calling on domestic mountaineers to conquer the northern slope of the Eiger, the most dangerous part of the Alps. The North Slope of the Eiger is not only unstable in climate and sometimes rock falls, and some vertical drops reach 1,830 meters. No one has successfully reached the top of the mountain before, but there have been several incidents of mountain climbers being killed. At that time, four mountaineers set out to reach the summit under the call, but the result was a mountain disaster due to bad weather. Two of them fell off the cliff, one was strangled by ropes, and the remaining one was struggling alone to wait for rescue. However, because the weather was too bad, the rescue team had to withdraw and wait for the dawn and snow.

The surviving mountaineer, named Tony, miraculously survived after hanging from a cliff in a blizzard all night, but one arm was completely frozen and dead. Because Tony's position was too high and dangerous, the rescue team could not get on to rescue him, and the rope at his hand was not long enough for him to rappel down. The rescue team had to ask him to untangle the strands of the rope, tie the extension down, tie the rope, and pull it up. So when his physical strength was exhausted and only one hand was left, Tony climbed up a dozen meters, cut the rope between him and his dead companion, and knotted the rope with one hand and teeth. It took 5 hours , before pulling the ropes of the rescue team. Sadly, as Tony slowly rappelled down the rope to a few meters above the rescue team's head, he was caught in the knot between the two ropes and struggled for a few minutes before leaving "I can't do it. It's a dying word.

"North Wall", let me see the brilliance of human nature, save others, and finally the rescued people dragged to death. What impressed me the most was the rope, the rope they threw away, who would have thrown it away inadvertently at that time, who knew that what was thrown was his own back path, and what was broken was his own back path. Be a little more mature, be a little more sensible, and not so much to die and live. The life, human nature, love, friendship, sports morality and sports spirit in the story is a film that uses the naked eye and heart to feel the danger, the passion of sports, and the emotion of the moment when a person faces death. It is a film worth forever. Movies carved into memory.

North Face quotes

  • [first lines]

    [in German, quoting English subtitles]

Luise Fellner: [voiceover] When you're at the bottom - Toni once told me - at the foot of the wall, and you look up, you ask yourself: How can anyone climb that? Why would anyone even want to? But hours later when you're at the top looking down, you've forgotten everything. Except the one person you promised you would come back to.

  • [last lines]

    [in German, quoting English subtitles]

Luise Fellner: [voiceover] All I know is that death spared me, and that Toni went away forever that day. One has lived if one has loved. There are times when I find this infinitely hard to believe. Most days I feel that I am alive. And that love is the reason for that.
