other kind of love

The Gatekeeper at Midnight, just watched it curiously because of the title of the film. The whole film has a damp, oppressive color. The love of the hero and heroine in the play is a bit different because it also contains this kind of violence. People call it "abusive love". But I don't know why, in the process of watching the movie, I think everything is so reasonable. Max enjoys the process of abusing Lucia, which is the innate desire for domination and violence in men as a male animal. And Lucia also plunged into this crazy "love", willingly obeyed and loved it. I'm not a psychologist, and I can't understand why or why. But seeing the two of them collapse on the bridge at the end, I'd rather believe it was the love for each other that made them desperate.

  • Max: My little girl - you, you remember my little girl, don't you? My little girl is waiting for me. Bye.

  • [first lines]

    Stumm: Good evening.

    Max: You're early.

Stumm: I want to get off early tomorrow morning. Ah, here are the flowers, the newspaper and the cigarettes that the countess asked for.

Max: [puts the flowers in a vase] Thank you.

    Stumm: Has she called down?

    Max: I don't know.

Stumm: You're always sending only me out to buy things for her.

Max: [annoyed] You get tipped, don't you?

    Stumm: [sarcastic; shrugs] Oh.
