This film is based on real events. The father of Iraqi infantry Mike Delfield (Jonathan Tucker), Hank Delfield (Tommy Lee Jones), suddenly received news that his son went missing after returning home. Veteran Hank drove to the barracks to investigate personally, and learned little by little about the psychological trauma Mike experienced in Iraq from the images on his son's mobile phone. It didn't take long for the police to find that Mike was killed and his body was dismembered and burned. Hank's wife, Joan (Susan Sarandon), was devastated after learning the bad news and couldn't help herself. Hank met local detective Emily (Charlize Theron) while investigating the case. The two established a special friendship and approached the truth of the incident step by step.
The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor (Tommy Lee Jones), and was nominated for the Catholic Culture Award and the Golden Lion Award at the 64th Venice Film Festival.
