Run For Love (Barbara - 2012)

This film, also set in the repressive atmosphere of East German politics in the 1980s, is almost a complete stylistic contrast to the goodbye Lenin or the Eavesdropping Storm or the Apple Tree I've seen before. There is no ridicule of absurd political history, nor does it create a strong atmosphere of the times, the plot is not tortuous and intense, and it is not completely the trend of the big and small characters. On the contrary, it is an artistic romance movie with a very middle-class literary flavor.

In the simple and elegant style of the art film, it still brings out many themes, the multiple pulls of gender, love, politics, work and life. The heroine wants to escape from East Germany for her lover in West Germany. Rebellious, but the film still presents the ubiquitous pressure of white terror, and the human observation in it. It cannot be said that the filming is not delicate or in-depth, but it is still very much like watching a French literary romance, and the historical weight of the subject matter is somehow missing.

"Yaguo's Mission" is trying very hard to create the atmosphere of the times, whether it is character modeling, scene, color texture of the picture and a bunch of popular culture references, of course, this is the inevitable theme and genre. "Running For Love" is a more personal story, and the writer and director almost don't care about the atmosphere of the times, so after watching the movie for half an hour, I always thought that the time was in the modern era, and I couldn't tell the difference between the times. Fortunately, I took a look at the plot synopsis before, and then I slowly organized the background of the movie in my mind. To be honest, if you watch this film blankly, it may take longer to enter the situation.

The narrative of the film is deeply hidden, relying on various details that are not easily revealed, which kept me in the dark, and finally the truth came out. Although looking back at all the stories, it was actually quite bland, but the romance was enough to make up for the shortcomings. I like this kind of stern story, and even more charming is the kindness and compassion in the bones of the movie, which is what the directors of the Celestial Dynasty lack the most.

The details are in place, not to mention the two looking at each other at the end, but only to analyze Rembrandt's paintings and the collection and delivery of objects, and the theme, emotion and background have been laid out clearly. This melodious and unwavering tone first tells the audience why they want to flee; then as the rhythm picks up, the conflict unfolds, which explains why they don't flee. Furthermore, the vintage tone of the film is very well done, and the Rembrandt section is also very agreeable.
