I didn't read much of Verlaine and Rimbaud's poems, so I watched the movie without background information and adoration.
The plot arrangement is relatively compact, the film time is not short, but it will not feel boring or too tense. Probably looking at this film with a secular moral view, he is drunk and moody, and because he is dissatisfied with his father-in-law, he angers his wife and makes atrocities such as burning his wife's hair with candles. Every time he hurts his wife or lover, he cries or shakes his lips to beg. Forgive, Verlaine like this is the image of a cowardly old man who pursues physical pleasures and is incapable of fulfilling family duties and responsibilities.
I couldn't help spraying Verlaine's actor. In this film, he looked more anxious than Remus in HP. With a thin body in long pants, those two lips trembled in the beard, Still glowing with water, there is always an urge that makes me want to punch his big teeth. . . But being able to play this role in an uncomfortable way is also a bonus for the actor.
As I have not read their biographies, I dare not judge the two poets arbitrarily, but judging from the interpretation of the two actors in the film, among the two, the older Verlaine is the more insane, obviously inseparable from reality, but More romantic. And Rimbaud is like a firework, flying to a very high place, bursting open, and after the glory, he returns to the sad and indifferent night.
Because the two are so self-willed, each with their own needs and goals, they are destined to not last long. Driven by his contempt for everything, and other unstable emotions unknown, Rimbaud stabbed the knife into Verlaine's hand. Unconsciousness aroused by alcohol, long-term insecurity and marriage breakdown, financial desperation, unable to let go of Rimbaud's (physical) selfish love, all kinds of influences, Verlaine shot through Rimbaud's palm.
The fingers are connected to the heart, the intention behind the behavior is obvious, and the plot has clearly formed a reincarnation, but what is the truth behind it? Passion can be crazy, but love cannot. Rimbaud at the end of the film says he has found eternity, which is the fusion of sunlight and sea water. Maybe passion is sunshine, and love is a bottomless sea. If they can't blend, people can't stay together.
