Let's spend this weekend in peace

I can't remember where I heard about this film, but once I saw the trailer, I started frantically searching for news about this film. After a long wait, I finally got a glimpse of it in London when it returned to its home in England. This was the first time I watched an LGBT movie without subtitles in a movie theater surrounded by ghosts, and this night, I enjoyed the same movie that I hadn't seen for a long time. It was also the first time that after watching a movie, I felt the feeling that I wanted to talk to someone but there was no one to talk to.

Whenever the same movie is mentioned, many people will think of handsome men and sensuality, especially American light comedy series. Although there are also serious groups like God Bless Bobby who explore realistic themes, but because it is based on real events, there are traces of all the development and extension. However, Weekend has made a completely fictional story so realistic and so lifelike.

If the large sections of landscape shots in Brokeback Mountain give people a feeling of tediousness and loss, then those blank paragraphs in the weekend time seem extraordinarily random. Without the beautiful scenery, the pictures of city streets are more realistic. Buildings with uneven levels, slightly rusted apartments, slippery streets, swaying buses. Everything in the story is in the fireworks of the world, and the sense of reality is realized. The dialogues of the characters are rich, and they are always on point, never deliberately done when they are not needed. If the story of Brokeback Mountain is beautiful and long, then the encounter in the weekend time is a typical encounter of urbanites. The two met in a bar in the vast crowd. The relationship was originally just a one-night stand, but it changed because of a small tape recorder. The last time the two parted, it was different from the previous direct departures. They stopped and looked back to reveal their true emotions. There is no intense emotional catharsis, no sensational words, just a look back, and everything is clearly expressed. The so-called untouched but fascinating, and that's it.

Under the calm story, in addition to the emotions of the two, there is also a fierce collision of ideas. Two people with different attitudes to life have heated arguments in the middle of the night in order to make each other understand and accept their way of life. Just like people in real life, ideas collide and sparks are generated because of communication. Conservative and radical, seemingly opposites, but there is no sense of disobedience. It's like one advance and one retreat in a ballroom dance. It seems inconsistent, but the connection is just right.

You look like you wanna kiss me.
I do.
Go on then.

Whether it's madness on the dance floor, intense sex on the bed, debate on the couch, or denial in the kitchen, it's a way for two people to express their hearts . No need to set off, no need to describe, the love grows in the hearts of the two and spreads, so that the audience in front of the screen can easily feel it, even longing for it.

However, tomorrow I will be leaving, no matter how hot you and I are today, it cannot change this fact. Whether to separate yourself from this relationship or continue to fight for it is a too difficult decision. As the film progresses, I have been thinking about whether the film will eventually fall into the old-fashioned retention ending. Fortunately, reality has always been the main theme of this film, and it will not compose a happy reunion to cater to any aesthetic feeling. On the contrary, it ended the encounter between the two people in an abrupt way. At the last station, there were no sweet words of parting, no emotional words from the heart, just a kiss in front of the platform, accompanied by the whistles of the people around. And sighs, have nothing to do with perfection.

In the end, two ordinary people who were not perfect experienced encounter, never made a promise to wait, and then parted. One person left, leaving the other person in the huge city, looking out from the window.

But all this is real.

Parting is love, waiting is love. Let go of love, and then pick it up for you.

Literary and fresh gay drama, emotional changes are handled very delicately, I was a little overwhelmed after watching it, when the ending song came out, a faint sadness came to my heart

Weekend quotes

  • Glen: It's like when you've had the same friends for too long, they become like - Everything becomes cemented.

Russell: What? And that's a bad thing, is it?

Glen: Of course, it's a bad thing. I don't want to be in fucking concrete, thank you very much.

Glen: It's like they won't let you, they won't let you be any version of yourself except an old version, or the version that they want you to be.

  • Glen: Look. Straight people like us as long as we conform, we behave by their little rules. Imagine your friends if you suddenly started getting all, but really, political about being a fag, or you got suddenly, like, camp and swishy or talked about rimming all the time.

Russell: [interrupting] But that's not what I'm like, is it? That's not who I am.

Glen: Well, just trust me: They like it as long as we don't shove it down their throats.

Russell: Okay, well, why should I just shove it down their throats?

Glen: Because they shove it down our throats all the time: Being straight. Straight story lines on television, everywhere - in books, on billboards, magazines, everywhere. But, ah, the gays, the gays -

    [gasps]

Glen: "We mustn't upset the straights. Shh. Watch out. Straights are coming.

    [lisping]

Glen: Let's not upset them. Let's hide in our little ghettoes. Let's not hold hands. Let's not kiss in the street, no."
