This sentence won my heart, and I think the Garden of Words and Leaves is too. I kept watching and watching it until I suddenly realized at the end that this film is not good-looking. I don't mean to criticize Xin Haicheng at all. The painting, music, etc. of the whole film show that this is an amazing film of high quality, but its plot and the meaning to be expressed I really can't understand. Since the second five, I have not been able to understand Xin Haicheng's storytelling method. It is not the best way to tell a very simple story in such a cumbersome way. If it weren't for the breathtaking painting, this film would probably be just an ordinary animated film and wouldn't get much attention.
Xin Haicheng is probably not a storyteller. He is talking about a state of mind. He is talking about the state of mind that two people cannot get close to in the second five. He is talking about the faint feelings that spread in the Garden of Words. The feeling of finally taking that step. Probably this is the purpose of Makoto Shinkai. The mood he describes is so beautiful that the plot is not important. But the plot is so important that I can't appreciate the film.
