When an alcoholic husband was about to assault his daughter, he was accidentally killed by his daughter, and his wife, Lemanda, went home and hid her husband's body in a refrigerator in a tavern. As a result, attending grandmother's funeral was delayed, leaving relatives and friends puzzled. Lemanda's sister smuggled back her long-lost mother from the funeral and lived a life of secrecy. And Lemanda's resentment for her mother over the years prevented her from facing her mother. Another aunt, who had cancer, revealed an unknown family secret before she died. Lemanda learned about her mother's pain, and her mother also learned about her daughter's hardships. From then on, the family finally released their past suspicions and lived a happy life together.

The film was directed by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar and was joined by many female actors, most notably the well-known Penelope Cruz. Although this is a complex family story with multiple clues, it is also interspersed with several spooky "ghost stories". The very shocking theme, the story of the father infringing on the daughter and the daughter giving birth to a child, is still enough to touch the hearts of the audience and make everyone look at such a cumbersome family anecdote with a new look. Thus, uncovering the true face of a hippie family's indecent tradition, revealing another complex dimension of the world of women.

In a female world without male intervention, the relationship between women is harmonious and beautiful, without any communication barriers. Only in a world without men can women truly return to being women and undertake all their due obligations. The mother understands the daughter, and the daughter forgives the mother. I don't quite understand whether the director Pedro Almodóvar is exposing the real phenomenon of the Spanish widow village or exploring the emotional style of the women's world. For foreigners, there is a kind of rush to hear anecdotes. Fortunately, this is a glamorous film with a very realistic temperament, and the couple who paid more attention to the film were attracted by Penelope's dangling breasts at that time.

  • Irene: Don't say that, Raimunda, or I'll start crying. And ghosts don't cry.

  • Sole: Mom?

    Irene: Hum?

Sole: There's something you want me to do, isn't?

    Irene: Cut my hair.

Sole: I mean if there's something you couldn't do alive and doesn't let you rest.

Irene: There are always things undone. Or bad done. And my life has been no exception. Look, I don't know if I can fix them, but if I can, it's up to me to do it.

Sole: [after a long silence] Customers will arrive soon. What are we going to do?

Irene: We attend to them. I'll help you.

Sole: But I can't introduce you as my mother. They all know I'm an orphan.

Irene: Then I'll pretend to be foreign.

    Sole: Foreign? Where from?

    Irene: ¿Dominican?

Sole: No. There are lots of them on the neighborhood and they would notice the accent.

Irene: ¿Chinese? Madrid is full of Chinese people.

Sole: Who's going to believe that you're from China, mom?

    [Thinks]

Sole: Something strange. Not very common around here... Rusian.

Irene: Do wou really think I look more Rusian than Chinese?

Sole: Yes. Rusian women are just like us, mom. Look, whatever you hear, keep your mouth shut. And it can't looked in your face that you understand us.
