I talk about David Lynch, I have to mention his CULT style. I believe that most people have appreciated "Mulholland Drive". The plot of the dream in the film makes people feel lost. Afterwards, I also watched several other films, the overweight taste in "Eraser Head", the weird style of "Blue Velvet", the horror of "Frightening Night" and the bizarre plots in "Inland Empire". Most of David Lynch's films are full of spooky noir. This makes this "Mr. Streeter's Story" a bit different. Lynch changed his style from the past and presented us with a warm little freshness through the story of an old man.
From the beginning of the film, the theme is straight to the point. Neighbors found Street sick lying on the ground, and then he and his daughter were sent to the hospital. After examining him, the doctor advised him to rely on medical equipment and rest more in the future. The old man was very stubborn and didn't pay attention to the doctor at all. When my daughter asked about his condition, he passed by. But attentive people found that there was a kind of sadness in the eyes of the old man at this time, but then the plot continued to develop. The old man learned from the phone that his brother was seriously ill and decided to see him. But at this time, Street's eyes were no longer suitable for driving, so a lawn mower at home came in handy, and he decided to drive the lawn mower to visit his brother more than 300 miles away. We can't help laughing when we see this, this old guy is stubborn enough. Street asked her daughter to prepare the necessities for the road. This is because we also found that our daughter Ruth has a language barrier, which also paved the way for the future plot.
Street's first trip wasn't so smooth, as those old friends said he would be back sooner or later. Sure enough, the lawnmower broke down halfway through, and Street had to hitch a ride back, but he didn't give up, and then bought a second-hand one to continue on the road. There is a strong man who is gone forever. I have to mention that Lynch's framing is very tasteful, and the aerial photography captures the simple and beautiful scenery of the American countryside.
The travel of the elderly is undoubtedly difficult, but there is joy in the pain, and I have met some people and some things. The first was a young girl who couldn't catch a ride. One old and one young were chatting by the fire. We learned from the conversation that the girl ran away from home and was pregnant, but was just confused about her youth. The old man did not preach, but calmly told a story, which has become a household name in China: the dying father called the two brothers to his side, gave them a chopstick, and told them to break the section, and they did it easily. But giving them a pair of chopsticks to break them is obviously impossible. The story tells us that brothers work together to break gold. Street just replaced the chopsticks with sticks and turned the brotherhood into a family, but the final principle is the same. The old man's painstaking efforts also paid off. Although the girl had left in the morning, he left a bundle of twigs for Street to tell him that he understood his intentions.
Then move on, the lawn mower and the RV have become a special scenery on the road, and then meet a working woman on the road. The woman accidentally killed a deer, but the pressure of life made her become hysterical. At this time, the old man There is a stark contrast between the old gentleman's demeanor and the woman's gaffe. This demeanor is also reflected in the next episode, where a group of cyclists pass by Street, and the old man takes the initiative to stop and greet them, watching them go. In fact, we also understand that Street is nostalgic and emotional about his youth.
The story has its ups and downs, Mr. Streeter encountered an episode on the road, the lawn mower trigger failed when driving downhill, but it was a near miss. The old man met a kind-hearted man, helped him repair the machine and lived in the back garden temporarily. This plot not only depicts the kind-hearted male host, but also leads to a story of a World War II veteran. The World War II veteran invited Street to a bar, and the two exchanged heartfelt conversations in the chat. The veteran still did not forget his comrade-in-arms who was killed by an incendiary bomb, and Mr. Street also shared a story. It turned out that he was a sniper who mistakenly killed a comrade-in-arms during a mission, and he can't forget it to this day. The guilt was deep in his heart. The wit and humor he showed in the negotiation with the car repair brother made people laugh and cry. Although the host tried his best to help Street complete the trip, the old man's spirit of disobedience was reflected again, and he drove the car again in the early morning. The lawnmower is on its way.
In the plot of encountering the priest, the film confessed in detail about Street's past. It turns out that he and his younger brother have always been inseparable. It was just a quarrel ten years ago that broke the two brothers. They have not been in contact with each other for ten years. It also talked about her daughter Ruth, which was set up at the beginning of the film. Ruth is a language barrier patient. She also had a child of her own. The child was burned in a fire and was deprived of custody by the state government, but she forgot. In the past, he had been waiting for the child to come back. Ruth was the last thing in the old man's heart, and he also hoped that his daughter would have a perfect ending.
In the final plot, the old man's lawn mower broke down once. In fact, it was very close to his younger brother's house, but God helped him, and a good-hearted person who passed by helped him repair the lawn mower and showed him the way. After untold hardships, the two brothers finally met. The two sat peacefully on the rattan chair. When the younger brother saw his brother using the lawnmower to visit him from afar, the tears in his eyes could no longer be controlled. Street fulfilled his wish. He looked back at his brother contentedly.
The journey will eventually come to an end, and people’s family love will never end. The stars at the end of the film express Street’s wish to be able to sit on a rattan chair and look at the stars in the sky with his younger brother, just like when he was a child, and reminisce together The joy of the past. There are countless stars in the sky, and there is endless family love in the world.
