"Cyrano" (also translated as "Love with a Big Nose") is a typical romantic work of Rodan, and it still continues the idealism and philosophy of love in his works, but what impressed me the most was his lonely knight Spirit. The story takes place in France in the 17th century. Cyrano, the brave swordsman and poet who loves his cousin Hoxan deeply, hides his emotions because he is ashamed of his appearance. It fell in love at first sight, so Cyrano wrote a love letter on behalf of Christian to help him make love like Hoxan, who fell in love with the lover's affection and talent and eventually married Christian. Earl Teghish, who was obsessed with Hoxan's beauty, sent Cyrano and Christian to the front line out of revenge. On the front line, Cyrano still wrote love letters to Hoxan in Christian's name every day until he died in battle. Hoxan entered the monastery after her husband died. Cyrano went to see her every day for fourteen years. Until he was plotted against and seriously injured, Cyrano insisted on coming to Hoxan. At this time, Huo understood. The person he really loves is this person who has been secretly and silently accompanying him, and he has been away from her forever. This is the end of the story, and we don't know what the next plot will be. Maybe the important thing is not the future, but the present.
Cyrano is undoubtedly one of the characters that the author focuses on creating in this play. From him, we can easily see the chivalrous qualities that Europeans admire: honor, etiquette, humility, perseverance, loyalty, pride, piety... because of contempt Montfleury's character, and making a scene in the theater to ruin his performance, even if he spends a lot of money on it, he feels that he has a big nose, an ugly figure, and he is not worthy of the love he longed for. The entourage is tired of chasing after fame and fortune, crawling in the dust, servile and unwilling to go against his heart, and when the war is surrounded by people starving and grabbing rat meat, he uses a shepherd song to evoke homesickness and resist noble hunger. At the time, he still insisted on going to the appointment and came to the side of the beloved to read the last words at that time. "However, singing, dreaming, laughing, moving forward, being alone, having choices, being cold and bright, distinguishing right from wrong, being righteous, not wearing a hat, arguing about poetry and fighting to death, fame and wealth like floating clouds, running to the moon palace without hesitation, If I have the chance to win and establish my own merits, I refuse to be an ivy or an oak tree or a bodhi, so I may not go far, but I will walk alone to the thousand mountains." This monologue of Cyrano in the play actually implies everything. If "Don Quixote", which was almost the same period as "Cyrano", announced the end of fideism, I prefer to believe that "Cyrano" is another rebirth and continuation of idealism.
"My creative ambition is to inspire people, not to be enlightened. Do you remember the night when Christian confessed his love? That was the portrayal of my life. I always hid in dark corners and watched people get up on the roof and kiss Fangze." Love, It seems to be an element that cannot be ignored in the creation of Eastern and Western art, or an indispensable human factor, and Cyrano's love actually incorporates our incomprehensible chivalry to a certain extent. For the term "love", I can only give a definition that I agree with: love is giving, self-giving, and does not expect an exchange of equal value at all. Perhaps they are too obsessed with themselves and their beliefs, and sometimes they habitually ignore the reasons for their actions, because it is natural and inevitable. The popular understanding is that as long as the loved one lives happily and comfortably, even if she sacrifices herself, even if the person who accompanies her to the end is not herself, so long as she is happy and comfortable. Perhaps removing all the assumptions and possibilities in the middle is the pure Cyrano of sadness we see today. At the end of the story, when Cyrano read out the "love letter" collected by Hoxang, the smart Hoxang understood everything and regretted it. The story left shadows and flaws in Haoxan's heart, and even regrets are not allowed.
It has been a long time since I was entrusted by others, so I started watching this play off and on. This is also the first time I have officially come into contact with the drama works of the Baroque period. Among the various translations, I like the only movie line. It turns out that dramatic language can be so beautiful, so subtle, so addicting. I won't repeat it here, and I will leave the rest to you for evaluation soon. .
