The reason why the heroine was finally found guilty is clear: "National security has been violated, a husband has lost his lover, a little girl can only face her mother's grave forever, and it's all because you are chasing the Pulitzer Prize. "The person who eventually won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting the scandal that exposed the mayor caused the mayor to step down.
The heroine's insistence is the result of her belief that the truth must be known to the public, "We shouldn't make a snitch" and "but we shouldn't endure the bullying of others". Or what is the result of the heroine's pursuit? President stepping down? Get Pulitzer, the masses believe every news from the newspaper? Even if the news is not even true is distorted. When the newspaper was carried away by the value of the news, it chose to ignore the legal responsibility that the news might have to bear. After all, the last time it was jailed for writing news happened more than 30 or 40 years ago. But the film's results show how confident Americans are in the perfection of their laws.
I've always believed that if it wasn't for HE, what the director conveyed was a denial of the whole story. Perhaps the director wanted to use the heroine's conviction to satirize the entire legal system. At least I didn't see it, so the director's intentions are like this for my audience.
