Plot, you could have been beautiful

I can't remember when I became a Saoirse Ronan fan. Love her onyx green eyes, nimble mouth, pointed chin, and full forehead (my biggest regret is not being able to grow a wide, firm and intelligent forehead). From the unfortunate but optimistic and kind little girl in "The Lovely Bones" to the suspicious, neurotic disaster-maker in "Atonement", to the ruthless killer in "Hannah", Ronan successfully Completed the transformation from a child star to a professional actor. Today, she is a slender girl, but in her gestures, she can still see the alertness, firmness and emotional richness of her childhood, but she has lost her youthful childhood and added a little sexy and free and easy.

In fact, I have been looking forward to seeing her new work, "Violets and Daisies", but "Host" came out one step ahead. When "Twilight - Breaking Dawn" was jokingly summed up as "a woman who doesn't know what to do when she gets pregnant", I already didn't have any expectations for "Host". Whether it is a vampire or an alien, the central idea that the author Stephanie Mayer wants to express is nothing more than "unconditional love", the kind of love that can transcend time, space and species, and is willing to give everything and dare to sacrifice. However, perhaps because of Ronan's charm, I still watched the entire film in the afternoon when I was supposed to write my thesis.

In fact, after watching it, I feel that the film has exceeded my expectations. At the beginning, when I watched the "Twilight" series, I followed the trend and watched the excitement, and I watched it under the repeated encouragement of my friends. After watching, naturally, there are many complaints about the plot, lines, and actors. First of all, I don’t really catch a cold with the vampire story, plus the cast, there are almost no handsome guys and beauties (I have to say, this kind of pure love story, the lack of idol actors is a flaw. Especially the heroine Bella, a pair of listless Her eyes and overly contrived neuroticism made me think she was a vampire before I figured out the plot.) And the whole show has a slightly eerie gothic vibe due to the use of too many dark green scenes in the forest. In my opinion, the biggest highlight of "Twilight" is Iron & Wine's flightless bird, which conveys a mood far beyond what the pictures in the film can convey.

However, most of the plot of "Host" really caught my eye.

My tears burst out of control when I saw the wanderer, in order to recall Melanie, decided to sacrifice himself, say goodbye to his beloved Ian, and lie on the stage with his aura of eyes open, quietly waiting for death. When I closed my eyes, it seemed that I had foreseen the next plot. When Melanie returned to her body and gradually opened her eyes, the wanderer turned into a puff of smoke, stayed in Ian's hands for a moment, and then reluctantly dissipated into the world. . And Ian wanted to hold on to her desperately, but in the end, because he was unable to defy the laws of nature, he had to watch the most beautiful soul in the world go away, and he couldn't help screaming and crying. Although Melanie was able to get back together with Jared, she fell into deep self-blame and guilt because of the loss of her soul's good sister.

Then, at the end of the film, whenever they look up at the starry sky, they always feel that the brightest star is the rover. Even if she goes to another world, she still protects everyone.

Then the subtitles start, and that's the ending, a complete tragedy, perfect! Dead is dead, gone is gone, no resurrection, no sequel! Let the audience immerse themselves in the plot and cry happily!

However, the real plot development has completely disappointed me! Having found a new host, the Wanderer becomes another person (a not-so-good-looking woman), and she can finally be with Ian without being disturbed by Melanie (could it be? Love one Can people really just love her soul? I think Ian's psychological gap must be very big), at the same time, Melanie and Jared also have lovers and get married. And the final plot of the film: It is found that there are not only a small group of survivors, but undoubtedly adds a series of ellipses to this happy ending.

All of this has brought the plot that could have been refined from the vulgarity back to the dog blood; the sci-fi youth pure love movie that could have been unique has been labeled as a companion piece of "Twilight"; In the end, I just hurriedly rang the doorbell at the door; I, who had originally had a good mood and was ready to read the original book, finally decided to write a thesis...

But even if the ending is not perfect, the whole film is not lackluster.

For example, the wheat field in the cave is beautiful,

the starry sky woven by fireflies is beautiful,

The lingering kiss between the two in the rain was beautiful,

and Saoirse Ronan with agate green eyes has always been so beautiful.

The Host quotes

  • Ian O'Shea: Wanda, I just want you to know that, uh... I trust you and I believe you're telling us the truth, but I... I gotta ask, what's it like for you and her, living in there together?

    Wanderer/Wanda: It's... crowded.

  • Jeb: This ain't a democracy. It's a dictatorship. It's a benign dictatorship, but it's a dictatorship just the same.
