desert of love

After watching Antonioni's "Eclipse", I watched this "Red Desert" the night before, which is a continuation of the powerlessness of "Eclipse", giving people a feeling of suffocation. Antonioni's use of lens language is slightly "dreamful", and this dream also extends to the use of scene colors in the film, the design of costumes (the heroine's costumes are of a very high standard), the setting of lines, etc. Some of them have the aftermath of the New Wave ontology, and here, the neurotic young woman is vividly portrayed.

But as far as the story itself is concerned, this description is realistic, and at the end of "Red Desert", the child asks the mother, "What is that yellow smoke?" The mother replies, "That smoke is poisonous, so, you see, Birds don't fly there anymore." So someone explained the heroine according to the original intention of the movie and said, "The birds know that the yellow smoke in the chimney is poisonous, so they don't fly there. If people know that hopeless pursuit is pain I won't let myself think about it any more." This is a cruel judgment, but it also captures the core of the film. Industrial society is full of "refined egoists," which may be the way things are.

There is no doubt that the film's foreplay is too long, which is obvious to all. An extramarital affair has long been stared at by the hero and heroine full of desire. Only near the end of the film, the "look of love" flashed. As a result, after the breakthrough point that the audience thought was reached, the hero and heroine "quickly" said goodbye. Perhaps, there is no time to determine whether he has come, let alone whether he has loved. What a joke.

Remember, when we were discussing "Eclipse", a friend said, did we uplift the movie? The meaning of its own, do men and women who are under temptation really think about such high-end and glamorous issues as "out of control and under control"? At this time, the discussion of "marrying or not marrying" is a game language or a serious lifelong event? No, we just don't know what to do.

Red Desert quotes

  • Giuliana: Are you a leftist or a rightist?

Corrado Zeller: Why do you ask such a question? Are you interested in politics?

Giuliana: Good Lord, no. I was just wondering.

Corrado Zeller: It's like asking, "What do you believe in?" Those are big words, Giuliana, that calls for precise answers. Deep down... one doesn't really know what one believes in. One believes in humanity... in a certain sense. A little less in justice. A little more in progress. One believes in socialism... perhaps. What matters is to act as one thinks right - right for oneself and for others. In other words, with a clean conscience. Mine is at peace. Does that answer your question?

Giuliana: That's some bunch of words you strung together.

  • Linda, Max's Wife: Where's Augusto?

    Mili: I dumped him.

    Linda, Max's Wife: Since when?

Mili: I can't go to bed with a man who earns less than me.
