I don't think it's our fault

Adapted from the novel of the same name.
It depicts the living conditions of some young people at the bottom of society in Denmark (Nordic). There are many negative or black plots in the film, such as alcoholism, theft, robbery, fights, prostitutes, oral sex, drug use, drug trafficking... At least 4 characters died in misfortune, and there were two funerals. Gloomy weather, furrowed brows, and constant bad luck keep the audience from seeing hope. The title "submarino" is the name of a torture in which a prisoner's head is forced into the water until he is almost suffocated before being lifted up. Here it symbolizes a kind of repression and struggle to survive.
It is not difficult to see that the director's intention should be to highlight childhood trauma, or the role of family education in personal growth. In fact, as the protagonist brothers, they are not short of money (the mother left a legacy of 300,000), and they are not even short of love (the brother's memory of his ex-girlfriend, the current girlfriend's attachment to his brother, the brother and son's father-son affection, etc.) , but the lingering shadows (mainly the death of babies) and misfortunes (no father, alcoholic and indifferent mother), and the invisibly cultivated concepts from childhood (violent tendencies, withdrawn personality, lack of legal awareness, etc.) But from time to time, it will lead to destruction. The younger brother's sentence "I don't think it's our fault" is a point, although it came a little suddenly.
The narrative structure of the film is novel and practical: first childhood clips, then separate accounts of the state of the two brothers when they grow up, then intertwined, and then separated again, until they meet again in prison and flash back. There are some echoes in the middle.
Thomas Vinterberg, as one of the founders of Dogma95, launched the well-received "Family Banquet" (Dogma95 No. 1) in 1998, and two consecutive works suffered box office and word-of-mouth Waterloo, until this film ushered in a long-lost film. Applause, although the box office is still not satisfactory. The film won 15 nominations for the "Robert Award", the highest honor in Danish film, but unfortunately no important awards were recorded. It is worth mentioning that many actors in this film are performing for the first time, and it is not easy to give such an answer; the actor who played the younger brother also won the "Robert Award" for Best Supporting Actor for this big screen debut.

Not bad. Although the Nordic films are always more formal than the British ones. I really like European films of this type, and I feel that similar American themes cannot create such "noble and sexy" decadence. The Empire State Building poster is shocking. If the lens doesn't zoom in, it's better if the time is shorter. Nick is the face of the crowd, but without any extreme performance, just right.

A very depressing sad story, especially the part at the end of the film where the brothers baptize the third brother, the sadness and sadness suddenly hit... In fact, the two brothers have always had the opportunity to make their lives better, but the dark and self-destructive tendencies seem to be more influential for a long time. with them until the end. The soundtrack is great, especially the Hollow Talk by Choir of Young Believers
