Crazy comedy with mixed flavors

It's always been that tone, and it hasn't changed since the beginning, and that's the defining mark of Almodóvar's films. In this early masterpiece, the director has been able to master a variety of comedy methods that recur in classic works in the future, and laymen who do not know this way always think it is a farce.

In my opinion, a careful director has created a very ingenious script, using some nonsensical coincidences to string together characters with distinct personalities that are unforgettable at first sight. The scene at the airport at the end was simply a mix of flavors, exciting, funny, and sad feelings all of a sudden came to my mind. I have never felt the director's sympathetic attitude towards women. On the contrary, female characters in Almodovar's films are always equal to men, sometimes even more decent and greater than men.

Of course, the film's strong color impact, bright tomatoes, red high-heeled shoes, pink sofa... These exquisite art designs build up the gorgeous world in Almodóvar's films, but they are often unexpected. It contrasts with the sad, lonely, and unstable state of mind of the heroine. Carmen Maura's performance is one of a kind, exaggerated, delicate, and free.

[Pepa holds up a bloody shirt. The police arrive]

Policía I: Where are the clothes your son wore...

Policía II: At the time of the murder?

[Pepa takes a clean shirt out of the dryer]

    Pepa: Right here. Sparkling clean.

Policía I: No trace of blood.

    Policía II: Or guts.

    Policía I: Unbelievable!

[Pepa holds up a box of detergent]

    Pepa: Ecce Homo. It's unbelievable.

  • Pepa: You could have killed yourself!

Candela: That was the idea. I'm desperate.

Pepa: So am I, but I don't jump off terraces.

Candela: I didn't know where to go. I couldn't face my folks. It's bad enough that I became a model.
