Follow. Long shots, long and even verbose. Multi-timeline narrative. The simplicity of the lines. No characterisation of character settings. An exploration of the contingency and inevitability of violence. Documentary form. The director is completely out of the moral judgment. There is no atmosphere preset, no emotional venting, or even "brutal" performance. The shooting death of an accomplice friend near the end of the gun-wielding youth is the finishing touch. This is definitely not the Gus Van Sant from Good Will Hunting.
