There are many ways to express grief. Oliver's self-talk and fear of feeling alienated are incarnate in Ewan McGregor's sad eyes. Christopher Plummer's performance is very hierarchical, joy and sorrow are intertwined, so nostalgic for life. The cautiousness and emotions of the father-son relationship are moving. Except for the masquerade scene, there is a lack of chemistry between Mélanie Laurent and McGregor.

Maybe everyone wants to meet "tiger", but in the end there is only "giraffe". The hopelessness of love and eternity may just be because I haven't met the tiger.
Oliver: [returning from Andy] I couldn't tell him.
Hal: That's okay.
Oliver: No, it's not. You can't hide this from him. He loves you.
Hal: For someone with so much relationship advice, you seem awfully alone.
ICU Nurse #1: Drinking is not allowed in the room.
[Everybody expresses dissatisfaction]
Hal: Oh, it's not?
[Someone says sorry]
Hal: No, no, no... no, no. She's a wonderful nurse. Here's to health care.
[Everybody laughs loudly]
