Horror atmosphere is good, the theme is not clear

Personally, I feel that the hero and heroine in the film want to escape from the town, so they shouldn't meddle in their own business, and don't trust other people. They should steal a car and flee back quickly. This is the attitude you should have when you are in a desperate situation. Our protagonist fell into the claws twice because of goodness at first, and then was targeted by the bad guys. . . sigh. . .
After watching it for a while, I started to discuss with the people watching it. Do you think the hero is smart or the heroine is smart? Because smart people may live to the end, not sentimental or cowardly. Everyone thought that the heroine was smart, and the results proved that, but the death of the hero was too tragic.
The hitchhiker had many chances to easily kill the hero and heroine, but he let them go several times and instead killed all the police around him, as if he wanted to make things a little bigger and end up with the two protagonists being arrested by the police. Mistaking it for a murderer makes this killing game even more exciting.
Why would a hitchhiker kill someone? I originally thought that I would give an explanation and say something about myself before I died, but in the end there was nothing. He didn't want to live at all, he wanted to kill all the cowardly idiots without wisdom, and then die in the hands of a little brave and resourceful beauty, maybe~ It's a little fake that so many police officers are killed easily.
All in all, the terrifying atmosphere is not bad, and every step is startling.
