Love is salvation.

Instead of saying that the little boy is going to find the secrets left by his father, it is better to say that he is going to find himself so that he can live in peace. In such a big New York, looking for an ordinary person with an unknown gender and surname is like looking for a needle in a haystack. From the very beginning, the little boy knew that he could not find this person, and the possibility that he could not reveal the secret was almost 100%.

But he still did it. Time and time again I searched, not for the answer, but for the irreparable eight minutes, for the last voice of my father on the phone, and for my heart that was boiled and tormented.

He walked the streets and visited families. Happy, sad, huggable, old, away from the city, irritable, kind, compassionate, black, a hundred people, transvestites, he has seen them all. He still uses harsh words to hurt others and hurt himself.

Running is for redemption, hurt is for punishment. However, I don't think he really understands what he wants to redeem and punish. He just blindly decides what to do, and engrave the missed eight minutes into his soul, self-tortured and hard to stop.

In fact, everything is not that difficult. Just reach out and let go.

Reach out and catch someone else's hand. Let go of all your past obsessions. His mother was right behind him, and she was always looking for him as he searched for unknown secrets. He has explored every trace, walked through every path he has traveled, drew the same map, met the same people, and remembered the same expressions.

Redemption is that simple. There is no need for self-punishment and closure, but hugs and love. There will always be someone who loves you, just behind you, with already open hands.

Just like the last group of villains in his book, we must experience pain, it will hit you to the ground and make you roll around in pain. But this is not important, what is important is that after you have experienced struggle and confusion, remember to wake up, stand up, and walk over.

  • Oskar Schell: It's just a box! An empty box!

Linda Schell: I know it's an empty box! I know this. But I did it for me, and I did it for you so we can at least try and say goodbye to him. Because he's gone, Oskar, he's gone and he's not coming back. Never. I don't know why a man flew a plane into a building. I don't know why my husband is dead. But no matter how hard you try, Oskar, it's never gonna make sense because it doesn't. It doesn't... make... sense!

Oskar Schell: Fukozowa you! You don't know anything!

  • [first lines]

Oskar Schell: There are more people alive now than have died in all of human history, but the number of dead people is increasing. One day, there isn't going to be any room to bury anyone anymore. So, what about skyscrapers for dead people, that are built down. They could be underneath the skyscrapers for living people, that are built up. We could bury people 100 floors down. And a whole dead world could be underneath the living one.
