Revisiting "Boys Don't Cry"

Looking for materials for the graduation thesis, I read some articles about "Boys Don't Cry".
Originally, I was still a little bit drumming on this topic (the study of homosexual appellations), and I even thought of changing the topic during the winter vacation. But now I feel that writing it down step by step, there is still something worth reflecting on. Interest always brings some surprises.
Yesterday, I watched an interview with Chai Jing in the new issue of "One Reading". She mentioned the concept of "sense of life". I recorded it like this: Many times people are unconscious, until one day, someone, in an instant, gives you a stimulus, you will never forget it, you don't need to write a diary, you can remember it for ten years. This is the sense of life.
I think "Boys Don't Cry" is a life stimulation. From the first time I saw it in my second year of high school, until now, I always have the opportunity to watch it several times a year. I don’t know why, but I just want to watch it. The last time was in London in the early spring of this year. I always remember Swank's angular face, very determined. Even at the end, the last blow of the gun was still so awe-inspiring, a little helpless and flustered. Even if ten years pass, I think I will remember this last look of brandon.
A few days ago, a friend posted a status after experiencing emotional bumps in the second half of the year and asked, what is love. I asked the same. The past few days have been very uneven, but behind the unevenness, I understand that love does not need any reason. Even so, when you really choose love, there are still so many stumblings and not freedom. Some people say, I am free, I love who I want to love. If this love is still based on heterosexuality, what is freedom? What does it mean to not need any rationality, that is, gender is not considered. The freedom of love lies in the unconditional longing for beauty in any form.
The film also tells us this truth. In the end, brandon and lana fell asleep hugging each other, and finally lana fell in love with brandon as a girl. Heterosexuality has become the greatest irony, because true free love cannot and will not be bound by any so-called concept above the temple. The beauty for which we tremble is all our motivation, all our meaning. We transcend the most primitive reason and the overwhelming hypocrisy built on it.
So, how much more brandon do we have to hunt?
So, how far are we from our hearts?

Boys Don't Cry quotes

  • Brandon: Lana, you are one cranky girl.

Lana: Yeah, well, you'd be cranky, too, Mister I'm Going To Memphis Graceland Tennessee, if you were stuck in a town where there's nothing to do but go bumper skiing and chase bats every night of your evil fucking life.

  • Lana: God, I hate my life.

Lana's Mom: [drunk on the sofa] Lana?

Brandon: I hate your life, too.
