horror love story

The film is adapted from the Swedish novel "Blood Invasion", called "Let Me In". This work has been made into a movie in Sweden before. The version I watched was remade by Hollywood in 2010. I have not read the original book, nor have I watched the European version of the film, so my feelings are limited to the Hollywood version, which may be different from the original book. The movie website categorizes the film as a horror movie, which I think is more than appropriate. I have never watched horror films in the popular sense. The psychological tolerance is one of the reasons. Another reason is that I can't stand the perverted shapes of the characters and the deliberately created environment. "Let Me In" is probably the least "scary" horror movie I've ever seen. In addition to a few bloody scenes required by the plot, the film is more about the delicate description of Owen's character and his emotional changes to Abby. Like the Chinese translation of the name, strangers should not approach.
I remember a famous writer said that tragedy is to destroy beautiful things for you to see. I think this work has the same effect. The so-called horror is to destroy beautiful things for you to see. The most beautiful love in the human world is played by the devil in the film as a tool to erode the human soul. The most terrifying thing is that you are willing to drink a little bit of it knowing that this love is poison. The boy seems to give up the greatness of the soul for love, but it is actually a love trap carefully designed by the devil step by step. There are three main characters in the film, Owen (boy), Abby (vampire), Old Man (Abby's EX). When Owen and Abby first met, Abby didn't have any idea about Owen, or he was hesitating, so he said "Just you know, I can't be your friend." to Owen. However, from Owen venting against the tree trunk with a knife, Abby could feel the deep depression and anger of the boy in front of him, making Owen, whose parents divorced and was often bullied by classmates, an excellent prey. But what really prompted Abby's decision to approach Owen was the failure of Old Man to go out to kill Abby that night. The roar that Owen vaguely heard from the other side of the wall was not what he thought Old Man, but Abby's tantrum at her former "lover", and finally Old Man said "Maybe I'm getting slow; Maybe I wanna wanna get caught; Maybe I'm just tired of this." Abby realizes that the servant in front of him has lost value, and decides to take Owen as the next prey, so there is a second encounter in the evening the next day. When I watched it for the first time, I was touched by the seemingly innocent love between a boy and a girl, and I ignored Old Man, who had been dedicated all the time. Until the second review, I suddenly remembered that Old Man was dying. I had begged Abby before going out that day, "Please stop seeing that boy.",
Another interesting aspect of the work is the change after Owen discovered that Abby was a vampire. According to the plot in the film, after the death of Old Man, Abby came to Owen's house, came in through the window, the two slept in the same bed and established a relationship with "go steady", which can also reflect Abby's cold-blooded relationship from the side. On the one hand, as soon as her beloved dies, she immediately falls into the arms of her new love. Owen and Abby were together like this. By accident, Owen discovered that the girl he loved was actually a devil. As a 12-year-old child, he instinctively had to call his father for help, but his father was still immersed in his love for Owen's mother. Blind hatred ignores the concern for children. It can be said that Owen eventually became the servant of the devil. Part of the reason was caused by his parents. More ironically, in the film, Owen slept on the sofa when he sneaked out to meet Abby in the middle of the night. The TV commercial in front of Owen's mother was playing a TV commercial, "It's 10 o'clock, do you know where your child is.". When there was no way to ask for help, Owen decided to face the devil alone, and it was at this time that Owen discovered that Old Man was not Abby's father, but her original lover. Panicked, Owen fled from Abby's house. Seeing this, new confusion appeared in my heart. It seems that from beginning to end, Abby did not deliberately hide his identity and background, nor did he become angry after Owen discovered the secret, which made me doubt whether it was a devil or a ghost. Poor little girl. The day after Owen escaped, Abby came to Owen's house. An angry Owen didn't say "You can come in." as usual, but made fun of Abby, leading to the next scene of Abby's bloodshed. Seeing this, I suddenly understood Abby's reaction before. Maybe it was a curse on the devil, maybe it was a protection for human beings, God set up a barrier for the devil that cannot be easily crossed, that is, the devil cannot enter the human room without an invitation. At this time, all the devil can do is use all kinds of false appearances to confuse mankind, so that you are willing to say "You can come in.
The film ended, but my mood was difficult to calm down for a while. Most of Owen's tragedy stemmed from family misfortunes. What made me tangled was whether Abby's feelings for Owen were really love. I believe that most people, like me, are reluctant to believe that the beautiful fragments are all lies woven by the devil. We would rather believe that Abby really loves Owen. However, we can't judge whether Abby is in love because of love. ; Or because of survival, so to love.

Let Me In quotes

  • Abby: [touching Owen's bandaged cheek] What happened there?

Owen: Just some kids from school. Where do you go to school anyway? I've never seen you...

    [interrupted]

    Abby: [interrupting Owen] Owen, listen.

    Owen: What?

Abby: You have to hit back. You have to hit back hard.

    Owen: I can't. There's three of them.

Abby: Then you have to hit back even harder. Hit them harder than you dare and then they will stop.

Owen: What if they hit me back?

    Abby: You have a knife.

Owen: Yeah, and what if that doesn't stop them?

    Abby: Then I'll help you.

  • The Father: Please don't see that boy again.
