soul, everlasting

The movie Chariots of Fire
was more shocking when I saw it at the end. Compared with the sportsmanship of the Olympics, Eric's belief touched me more.

A teacher often said that the true greatness is absolute selflessness, which has nothing to do with money or fame and fortune, and those preachers who are not afraid of hardships and travel through mountains and rivers have achieved this. What are they drawing? Their greatness is that they do nothing. Just spreading the gospel.

We often describe ourselves as a drop in the ocean, the dust of the universe, such a tiny individual that only disappears for a short while. Our sorrow is because we will not last forever, and for this we race against the clock and see mediocrity as shame. We rush to maximize the light and heat before the end of life. There is always a light in the depths of the soul, guiding us not to waste our time. Even in the face of eternity, the soul remains unshakable. The Little Mermaid knows it, and we should know better.

Everything in the world is resisting and perishing, and they desperately want to leave a trace of their existence before they leave. Even if it is a gene that has changed beyond recognition, it is also a strong evidence to prove that they have not gone without a trace. This is the instinct that the universe bestows on all living things, and it is the most primitive power that keeps the world alive.

I admire our role models, Shakespeare, Cao Xueqin, Goethe, Sima Qian, Gandhi, Qu Yuan... They let me know that what we are after is not just about finding ourselves in descendants who don't know that they have stretched for centuries and diluted me countless times shadow.

I admire people like Eric even more. He told me that even if you step on the water without a trace, even if you forget it in future generations, under the guidance of faith, your heart will be strong and peaceful, and your soul will last forever!

Chariots of Fire quotes

  • Harold M. Abrahams: Gentlemen, you yearn for victory just as I do. But achieved with the apparent effortlessness of gods. Yours are the archaic values of the prep-school playground. You deceive no one but yourselves. I believe in the pursuit of excellence - and I'll carry the future with me.

  • Lord Birkenhead: You Americans have a number of men who are rated as world-beaters; but, this contest is in Europe, not in the rarefied climes of the United States.
