"A Fei Zheng Zhuan": Xu Zai, can you fly?

A good movie is still a good movie even after the baptism of time. I don't even know it. It has been twenty-two years. Looking at the protagonists in the film, Tony Leung and Carina Lau were popular back then, and they are also popular now. Whether Hong Kong movies have regressed has often become a hot topic among cultural circles. Back then, Hong Kong culture could be exported to Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea, but today it requires others to import it. Instead, it seems to be a boon to local films. Even after many years, "The True Story of A Fei" is still an indispensable part of Chinese films. The Hong Kong Film Critics Society even listed the film as the first of the top ten Hong Kong films, which shows its status.

In recent years, the Hong Kong movies Ai Su in the 1960s are mostly nostalgic, paying tribute to the old Hong Kong at that time, what the spirit of Hong Kong. In Wong Kar-wai's eyes, the 1960s did not belong to this category. Instead, it had an old-fashioned taste. It was the smell of tobacco, the smell of broken houses, the astringency of a girl, or something between conservative and open. I don't know, or this is the kind of intoxication that Wong Kar Wai's world brings to people. At the end of the film, when Tony Leung appeared, I heard that it was to pave the way for the next episode, but unfortunately the box office failed and the sequel could not be successful. There are always aesthetic reasons for box office failure, just like many people don't understand "2046", not even the actors. Sometimes we think about the things in the vast world, whether it is necessary to understand everything clearly to be considered a cross. The real aesthetics and devotion go there in the end. The shooting techniques and lighting used in "A Feifei" were deliberately created. In the dim 1960s, it was like their undisclosed feelings, and it was like the society at that time was not rich, and everyone was reluctant to turn on the lights.

The origin of the word "A Fei" can be roughly traced to a Cantonese saying, "Fei Zai" refers to young people who are not doing their jobs properly. In "The True Story of A Fei", there may be another interpretation, Xu Zai (Leslie Cheung) I always wanted to imagine that I was a footless sparrow, he showed mercy everywhere, and even left a debt of love. His rhetoric at the store made Su Lizhen fascinated, from a minute of friendship to an hour-a-day couple relationship. However, he does not trust the traditional marriage system because of family factors. Su Lizhen is a traditional woman. She envys her cousin's love life to blossom and bear fruit. She hopes to enter the palace of marriage. However, men don't appreciate it, no matter how reluctant he is in his heart, Xu Zai just doesn't want to live a life of bondage. When the relationship was lost, he met the courtesan MIMI (played by Carina Lau), the goddess had a heart, and the smart audience who was the favorite of King Xiang roughly guessed it.

When it comes to emotional choices, both women have their share. Su Lizhen once thought of accepting the indeterminate side of men, and even did stupid things, waiting for him downstairs at the man's house, just so that her relationship could start anew. And the man hurt her unknowingly. Her simplicity, cuteness, and ignorance are the reasons why he fell in love with her. On April 26, 1960, at 3 pm, it was a minute that belonged to the two of them. He said that women will remember this minute because of him. The man seems to have forgotten it, but he always remembers it at the end, which fulfills the sentence he said, "I don't know who I love the most until the last moment before I die." In the end he knew the answer, but he couldn't look back.

The difference between MIMI and Ah Zhen is that she is a courtesan and has long had a different view on love affairs, but she also fell in love with Xu Zai, and was always afraid of competing with Ah Zhen. But she was more willing to accommodate him than Ah Zhen. Although Xu Zai drove her away many times, she did not leave like Ah Zhen. Maybe she understood this man. After the first intercourse, MIMI left a phone call to Xu Zai, but she knew that Xu Zai would not call her back. It seemed that she fell in love with this person at first sight, and she understood that a man is a happy person, but love is love, and she can't extricate herself. She was even willing to wear Ah Zhen's old shoes. When she knew that the man left, she even gave up everything to find him, instead of accepting another person's feelings.

Ah Zhen leaves Xu Zai and meets police Chao Zai (played by Andy Lau). Even if there is a good man by their side, they will walk together, and the relationship is in the bud, but in the end it will not end. There was a trace of spark, but it disappeared at the most gorgeous time. This is the reality. After she leaves, he will foolishly wait for her call at the phone booth, but she has never called once. The story is like a dream, from one man to another, from deep love to the friendship of a gentleman, many feelings disappear like smoke. For short-lived people, the feelings of wrong love and the fate of wrong bodies gradually become part of life.

After the movie was shown, I kept thinking about how I would choose if I were Xu Zai. Both are good women, and both are women who are willing to sacrifice for each other. It's a pity that Xu Zai is not sympathetic to Xiang Xiyu, and completely broke the hearts of the two girls. The responsibility seems to be far away from him. Moreover, he still has a friend to take care of MIMI. He thought that Chao Zai would take over and take care of Ah Zhen. But he couldn't plan for himself. He didn't have a plan. There was a gap in his heart that he wanted to fill. However, his adoptive mother had always hurt him, and his biological mother refused to see him. Death only resolved his pain, albeit with a sad ending.

Today, there are many liars in the love scene. Instead, I'm interested in understanding why these liars lie, is it loneliness? Is it lack of love? Is it revenge? Or for conquest and domination? In my bones, I believe that Xu Zai is not so bad, only that he has really loved him with his heart. Another question I think about is if Xu Zai's role is changed to someone else, what will be the effect. Yes, it is really difficult to find Hong Kong actors who have the temperament and can be retro. When there are many mainland actors in today's retro and historical dramas, Hong Kong actors owe a taste of interacting with the camera and the characters. Or elegant conversation, or beautiful facial features.

The role of Xu Zai will always belong to Leslie Cheung, and he lives in our hearts. best wishes.
