There are many anti-war films in the United States, starting from "Born on July 4" against the Vietnam War, many films reflect the suffering brought to mankind by the war. This showdown in the Valley of Elah tells a tragic story in grey tones. At first, I thought that the old father in the film could finally find his son. Like many clichéd movies in the past, the cruelty of the war described in this movie will be overcome by family love, but I did not wait for the happy ending. Before halfway through, the old father's son was pronounced dead, and he died quite tragically. As the story unfolded layer by layer, I felt very sad when the stark ending was exposed before my eyes. The son in the eyes of the old father is well-behaved and kind. After the war against Iraq, his spirit gradually approached the brink of collapse, his moral bottom line was ruthlessly destroyed, and he lost his most basic humanity. He drove towards the child and poked the wounded prisoner of war with his hand, and he showed no mercy. A soldier, who did not die on the battlefield, died of a fragile heart that was destroyed. His companion, a bad boy, a man who has all the suspects in one, actually kept his composure in the face of the cruelty of others. While he failed to stop the madness of the others, he stuck to his humanity and became the only psychologically surviving soldier. This is a great irony.
When the child fought the Hercules in the valley of Elah, he was brave, but his heart was full of fear. Just like the soldiers in the film, he is clearly suffering from fear, but he has to show his strength to his family and country. The upside-down flag at the end of the film is dilapidated and represents the country seeking rescue. I wonder how the bellicose Bush will feel after watching this film.
At the end of the film, a picture of a dead Iraqi child appeared before my eyes, which struck my optic nerve once again. With the war comes pain and destruction, not only the country and life, but also the will and the spirit.
