Before watching this movie, I hadn't read the novel. I think I have always had a weakness. I love movies more than novels. So after college, I have seen a lot of movies, but very few novels. In fact, if you haven't read the original work, you can avoid the interference of the original author's thoughts.
The name of the movie is "Scandal Notes", and the real soul is actually Barbara. She is an old woman in her sixties, never married and has no family. She was always proud and wise. She seemed to understand women better than anyone. So at the beginning of the movie, when everyone revolves around a young, beautiful and energetic female teacher like Shiba, she looks at her with a scrutiny and insight. However, when Barbara was invited to visit Sheba's house, what she saw was a family that did not fit her very well. Sheba was young and beautiful, her husband was aging, and a fat son who was slightly mentally retarded. Such a picture of a disastrous family is in stark contrast to Sheba. At this time, Barbara had already discerned the repression of a young and beautiful woman in such a middle-class family and the emptiness in Sheba's heart. Barbara herself is very lonely, and as a lifelong unmarried woman, she cannot have the happiness of a family. This long-term loneliness in her heart forces her to seek a kind of communication and understanding from the outside world, but at the same time she is contradictory, and she despises family triviality like Shiba. In the end, she aimed at Shiba, and she felt that Shiba could reach a spiritual consensus with her. Sheeba isn't alone, she's just empty, so when Barbara's cat dies, Sheeba is just a token greeting, she'll never understand the inner loneliness of an unmarried old woman .
In fact, throughout the whole film, this feeling of loneliness in Barbara is distorted. She does not hesitate to use any means to obtain chips as a means to gain understanding and care. When Barbara saw Shiba cheating with a student, Barbara was disappointed. In her mind, Shiba, who she thought could reach a spiritual consensus with her, was just a slutty and shameless person, but she had no choice. Go and report her, she used this as a bargaining chip to blackmail Shiba to get that kind of self-deceiving care. So in the end, Barbara didn't hesitate to report the fact that Sheba had an affair, when she found that Sheba couldn't give her any care.
In fact, loneliness is not terrible. Once it is distorted, it is the most terrible.
