Bridge
to Terabithia--Difference between "keep an open mind" and "keep the mind wild open"

and see the Disney logo when you open it. I reported too much expectations and related topics, and I expected it to be another fairy tale about breaking into fairyland and leading the people to defeat evil and seek liberation. But when I scanned it, I found that this one was really... unexpected. Great movie. It is recommended that you watch this review after watching the film.

Brief introduction.

I think the most curious thing about the movie is, who is Leslie? Or, what exactly? Is she human? Is she really dead?

Wikipedia said that the blueprint for the film was written by the author in memory of his son's best friend.

It is not difficult to see that in the film, Leslie has always acted as a "guide" role. It was she who led the hero Jesse to become mature, brave, independent, and imaginative. Terabithia" - a rope long enough to fly into the realm of dreams with a swing.
However, everything about "Terabithia" in Wonderland is related to the male protagonist. The squirrel monster and the vulture correspond to the boy who bullied him at school; the troll corresponds to the domineering eighth-grade girl; the broken car and the wind chimes correspond to his father's car and keys; (the dragonfly warrior maybe corresponds to his courage? I think everything in that country It all corresponds to his heart); even the shadow of the ultimate demon was finally proved to be his father. Although he and Leslie "created" Wonderland together, there is no trace of Leslie in Wonderland - if according to the film, Leslie transferred schools because of being rejected, then at least there is a shadow in his heart Bar? At least some "past"? - No manifestation in Terabithia. Jesse Jesse Jesse, all Jesse. And after Leslie guides Jay and the tree to "see" and name the entire land of Terabithia, everything that comes after is boy-defined, and Leslie acts more like a guest. Combined with Jesse's first "seeing" of the Squirrel, the reassuring look on Leslie's face - I think we can be pretty sure that "Terabithia" is Jesse's country and Leslie is just a "leader" .

Then there's speculation (by other people's reviews) that some say Leslie is a fairy/angel, and their family is there for Jesse's upbringing - well, one of the possibilities.
In fact, I think it is more likely that no Leslie has ever appeared! In the film, "Terabithia" is their wonderland, but "they" are the same person. I tend to lean towards Leslie as representing some "ingredient" of Jesse ("character" is better understood, but not accurate), and her substance is his intention - schizophrenia, to put it mildly - well, just As a high-level brain made up, anyway, the dragonfly has become a warrior, isn't it? However, the film is often presented with various kinds of evidence - in fact, apart from the time the two are alone - that the real existence of Leslie's entity. She has funerals, she communicates with others, and her parents communicate with others. But as said in the previous paragraph, there is no mention of her situation in the film, just like a rootless shadow, floating and swaying with the hero, but it is extremely dazzling. Orz. . This kind of real and unreal are forcibly squeezed together, as if there is a sour rubbing noise - especially the last part of the Dark Lord's shadow who is about to grab Jesse, but his father hugs him and comforts him. . Imagine the rose-red and grass-green Yin-Yang Pisces (Tai Chi Diagram) spinning in front of your eyes. . It was that feeling, the awkward harmony, the tragic consummation. I don't think a complete child and a complete adult would disagree with this, only people who are in the middle of the two can feel this way. Almost out of childlike innocence orz. . .

From this, I can draw my conclusion that whether Leslie is real or not, this is not the point - it is estimated that the producer wants this kind of real and fantasy effect, which means that they can't tell. But there's no question that Leslie represents - or guides - a certain quality in Jesse. As for what this kind of thing is, it's really hard to define. I think I caught it by comparison.

The process is like this. First of all, I feel that in the film, Leslie and the female music teacher, and what they represent behind them, are faintly opposed. This is most evident in the surprised look on the governess's face after Leslie's funeral with Jesse at the end of the credits. In the film, it is obvious that Leslie is young and the female teacher is not. Well anyway, the woman in the film makes me uncomfortable, even though she is beautiful.

After that, I started to pick the more meaningful clips of the female teacher and Leslie. How to say, to determine the "opposition", the female teacher said to Jesse after discovering his talent for drawing, "Don't let other kids in your way." (translated as "don't let other kids get in your way". Literally translated as "Don't let other children in your way", which is better understood by the literal translation), and at the end of the film - a place that generally sublimates the theme, Jesse has his sister in "Terabithia" - his own country/heart. clearly opposed. And Jesse and the female teacher went to the museum without calling Leslie, etc.

Finally, a specific comparison between Leslie and female teachers. There is a very subtle dialogue in the museum, in which the female teacher said "keep an open mind" ("keep an open mind/heart", in fact, I translated it as "live mind", but it does not fit the theme...), as relayed by Jesse Following Leslie's words "keep the mind wild open", the female teacher even agreed with Leslie.

However, these two sentences are "different". Well, how should I put it, they are not "contradictory", and even mean the same thing, but they are "opposite". this point is very important.

What is "keep the mind open". That's what Leslie stands for, I think, the real "Bridge to Wonderland" - that rope and finally the enhanced wooden bridge is just a reflection, projected onto the entity. By opening the mind/that rope, one can reach the wonderland Terabithia - I think represents.

Then "keep an open mind" on the opposite side. It is expressed as a more realistic, more utilitarian, and more adult-like "absorbing other people's ideas and turning them into one's own use".

On closer inspection, it seems that the opposite points are opening oneself and closing one's IQ. But I want to simply attribute this opposition to the difference between the "big self" and the "small self", but it is not in line with the original meaning. I feel that the attitude towards them in the film is praised, not praised, and derogatory. Well, maybe there will be Praise but definitely not derogatory. So the most accurate is the original words, keep open mind and keep mind open, it is worth experiencing, haha.

Maybe the movie is teaching the lonely, the poor, the troubled, the narrow-minded, the self-interested, and opening the heart. But at the same time point to everyone and tell the truth. This can also be related to what "childhood" is, and it can also be related to "creation", "world" and so on. There are a lot of other digging parts in the film. But I guess the meat with my personal style is over.

Let’s end with the line with super echo effects:
We Rule Terabithia, and Nothing Crushes Us!

2012.8.31.

PS1. Suddenly I thought that political textbooks—philosophy—always say “Contradiction is the unity of opposites. ”, and found that what is written above is exactly “opposition is the unity of contradictions”, is it that “unity is the unity of contradictions”? ~~Contradiction, opposition, unity, just three numbers, make up three talents~~ Haha~~~~~

PS2. Losing a guide to the fairyland in exchange for the complete opening of the fairyland, and being robbed of relatives in the most difficult period The 1,000 yuan he got from selling blood was forcibly packed into a mountain of gold at the same time. An inappropriate metaphor. A tragic "completeness". Leslie doesn't disappear, will Jesse share wonderland with others? Will he really open up? Maybe, maybe not, ahaha.
