Depressed industrial town, there is a little oil smell in the edge of the scenery. The young men are sloppy, and there seems to be a faint innocence in their wildness. This is my impression throughout the entire film.
Such a slow-paced life was broken by the return of Tip's sister Noel. The hero in this love story is Tip's best friend Paul.
The plot is not complicated. After watching the movie, what I think back to is "why"——
A. Why did Noel say he loves Paul but cheated on his body
at the beginning of the film, when the two were alone in the night, Noel told Paul that he liked it, but he rejected it with "I'm Tip's best friend". She stared at him, insisting on his kiss, and he bowed his head looking left and right. The kiss started her fiery response, and the two were drawn closer. It is such a brief plot that a woman with intense passion and desire deeply buried in her heart is outlined. It is not difficult to infer that the reason why she is still a virgin at this time is not unrelated to her studying in a girls' school all year round.
She had shown initiative in several sleepovers with Paul, but his restraint made her wonder if it was her lack of charisma. After spending the night in Xiaozhu by the lake, she expressed her doubts, but of course she couldn't understand his cherishment. After this weekend party, she finally proved her charm in drunken sex.
When she came back, she cut off her long hair, thinking of surprising him. The plot also took a turn for the worse.
Men and women are indeed not from the same planet. Noel thought he would surprise Paul by cutting his hair short, but in fact he was more of a polite compliment, saying "why didn't you bring your hair back" after the argument. Differences in thinking are all over the place, and she confesses that she still confesses to him after having sex with other men at weekend parties - "I love you", and he only has the pain of being betrayed. Women think that concealment is worse than betrayal itself, while men think that concealment after stealing may be a white lie to maintain the relationship between the two. This is where the most intense conflict in the film begins, with the woman shouting about her love and the man angrily pounding the dirt under his feet.
b. Why Paul didn't have a relationship with Noel
The first time Paul flirted with Noel in her bedroom bed, everything seemed to come naturally, but it stopped abruptly after she confessed that she was a virgin. Paul got out of bed, no trace of passion on his face anymore, his expression was full of trust in her, and he even said that he was a little embarrassed for the first time. He said "she never spoke to me after that" - which was the end of the first carnal lover with him; and he said "I hope we still have a lot to say after many years." - which is very moving Confession is also his "first" comparison to express his cherishment of her body. Paul fell in love with this woman, and fell in love with himself who truly loved people instead of his physical desires.
Paul clearly remembers having 26 women, which is the swinging side of his character. While he danced happily at the bowling alley after Noel turned, the awkward dance on the side with her back was his innocent side. The prodigal sons all wanted to have a beautiful and kind girl by the stove for him after reading countless people, and when Noel trusted Paul, who was a single parent, he had no doubt that she was this person.
c. Why can't Paul and Noel be together?
Paul is motivated by the mother who raised himself alone, I guess he wants to get back with Noel, but bumps into her friend (also his) Bust-Ass (what should have just happened ). At this time, the desire deep in the woman's body has been opened. Paul left in frustration, and after she chased after her, she still spoke slowly and unhurriedly as before, and the two parted peacefully. After the relationship, she was actually no different from the previous 26 in her eyes. He can no longer play the man he loves with pure love, and the love has vanished.
Later, Noel had integrated into the town, and the imbalance he brought before was forgotten by the lake like ripples. Paul lived a sloppy life with the other young men in town as before, every day was like dusk, and the air was still slightly smudged with engine oil. He expressed his inner thoughts to the dog, but it couldn't respond. Days go back on track gently, as if nothing had happened.
Choices in life result, as Paul said, either this way or that.
It is unknown whether the man's heart is aching because he lost her or because he lost a chance for true and pure love.
There are no answers to these, because love itself is an unsolved problem.
