Rent is one of the most successful musicals on Broadway to date. It premiered at the Broadway Nedland Theater in April 1996 and immediately caused a sensation. Not only did it win four Tony Awards, including Best Musical that year, it also won Pulitzer Prize, which is only 4 times in Broadway history. Rent is a typical Broadway musical, reflecting the lives of artists at the bottom of NEW YORK, the struggle and growth of a group of young people under the siege of poverty, HIV and kitsch culture. In the modern version of "The Bohemian," RENT's musical playwright Jonathan Larson, in tribute to Puccini, even named one of the heroines MIMI.
The story of course begins in the chaotic East Side of New York, and MARK, a movie madman who always carries a small camera, begins to witness the lives of such a group of people. Starting from the preparations for an anti-eviction performance in the new year, the protagonists appear to unfold their stories. MARK and roommate Roger are behind on rent for a year, and of course the artist neighbors across the block. COLLIN, a rebellious lecturer who was kicked out by MIT, was beaten by a hooligan and snatched away his only coat when he was about to enter the door. However, while moaning in a dark corner, he met the angel in his life, the drag queen ANGEL. Roger was spotted by MIMI downstairs on the night of the demonstration, but he dared not accept the girl's bold initiative. This funny guy, MARK, had to meet his ex-girlfriend's current lover on a narrow road when he was preparing for a demonstration performance, and what's worse, she was a female lawyer.... is every subject to face. Music and dance dramas can always make the sensationalism that usually seems too nauseous to be touching and not boring because of the sense of the stage. From the enchanting dance of MIMI, the creative stacking of various nouns in the lively "Long Live Bohemians", to the hugs and kisses of the protagonists in slow motion, music and movies can always make everything beautiful.
Of course, for me, music and dance attracts first. The entire movie uses dazzling singing and dancing scenes to form a unique lower-level New York. Even in such a world where poverty and death are entangled every day, even if young artists themselves are struggling to find love and not love, there are always songs and dances. Can vent. Director Chris Columbus still kept the original arrangement of the musical very faithfully. Better yet, many of the '96 classic CASTs are preserved. For example, Adam Pascal's HV+ musician Roger Davis, Anthony Rapp's narrator Mark Cohen, and Rosario Dawson (Gail in Sin City) had their voices on me right from the opening Seasons Of Love - why black people are so magnetic I'm envious of ING's voice.
Recently I fell in love with this song SEASONS OF LOVE. At the bus stop in the morning and evening, watching the rolling traffic and people, listening to the singing in my earphones silently, recalling some moments in the past year, I really don’t remember last year’s What birthday wishes?
