"Six Moral Tales" is Rohmer's representative work. Although I don't appreciate the complete set of six stories, it can be said for sure that the protagonists of each film have secrets in their hearts and words that they can't tell in their hearts. The work "Knee of Carat" is very reminiscent of "Lolita" in the United States. It is also an old man who falls in love with a little girl. Out of the falsehood of human nature, the danger of love. Rohmer's attitude in this film is relatively conservative. On the one hand, the protagonist is an intellectual and a decent person, and he knows how to look at people's faces and act. He even uses his "old fritters" character, Authority to deceive the weak, only for their own selfish desires.
In the entire film, which is about 100 minutes long, the protagonist Crayo only appears in the middle part. For the time being, the film can be divided into upper and lower parts. Knowing that he is about to get married, the male protagonist meets a friend in a small town, and goes to his friend's vacation house to play, and meets a girl named Laura. Laura's mother was married twice, one of her husbands died and the other divorced. In her married life is not happy, not only to worry about Laura, but also to take care of Carat. Carat is not her biological daughter, just the daughter of her ex-husband. The introduction in the conjecture, the prototype of the characters, intentionally or unintentionally, tells us that this group of people does not believe in the marriage system, because marriage will bring them pain, and the protagonists' deliberate attempt to conceal marriage is to tell the audience that desire is greater than everything.
Let's take the first half as the temptation of a girl to a man. Laura, a girl living in the manor, fell in love with the middle-aged diplomat at first sight. The girl said that when she met love, she would devote herself recklessly. The man knew that he was about to get married, but he tried Cheating, but girls restraint, so as not to destroy the beauty of others. In this part, the relationship between the two parties is not bad, and even the girl understands that she is about to leave. In the face of the little girl's initiative and enthusiasm, the man is still holding back. When a man talks about marriage and love with his friends, he always talks about how open his relationship with his fiancée is, and there is a chance of reconciliation even after many separations. It seems to be looking for a blister, looking for a shore, and empties the meaning of marriage.
Laura and the man's feelings come and go like the wind, because they know how to step back. However, when the man recognized Carat, he was completely attracted by Carat. He wanted to touch Carat's knee and kiss her Shan Duo, so he took the opportunity to fulfill his wish. Men think Carla's knees are attractive and project an image of her body on a part of her body. It's obviously because of addiction, but he wants to say it's the temptation of a woman, rationalizes his desires, and does it even if he knows he can't do it. Accumulating intentionally to achieve the so-called purpose, but inadvertently pumped the girl's water, and pretended to be righteous.
The main message in the film is that middle-aged men struggle with emotions and reason for young beauty. What is it about returning to love? The protagonist in the play is disappointed by the frustration of marriage, when he sees young women determined to " Reverse", carat is an emotional adventure for men. So he wears a fake face to do things he shouldn't do and get pleasure, all out of jealousy.
Desire is quite scary, and if you are not careful, you will fall into a trap. Or men don't know the meaning of love, and they derail when they meet a girl. Many times, people can't help their inner restlessness and do wrong things, and the most wrong thing for men is to pretend to be nothing, which is quite ugly. Human nature is such that no one scolds him for his actions. We do have room to think outside the play.
Desires are present and should be restrained instead of following the heart's will.
